Job Description

The Head of Casualty is responsible for the strategic leadership, underwriting performance, and profitability of the casualty portfolio. The role ensures disciplined underwriting, sustainable growth, and strong market positioning across all casualty lines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Business Leadership

- Define and execute casualty underwriting strategy aligned with company objectives

- Deliver profitable growth and sustainable combined ratio

- Identify market opportunities and emerging risks

- Contribute to overall P&C strategy and business planning

2. Underwriting & Risk Governance

- Establish underwriting guidelines, pricing frameworks, and authority levels

- Approve large, complex, or non-standard risks

- Ensure risk selection and pricing discipline

- Drive underwriting excellence

3. Portfolio Management & Performance

- Monitor portfolio performance (loss ratio, combined ratio)

- Manage exposure and accumulation risks

- Identify underperforming segments and take corrective actions

- Ensure balanced portfolio composition

4. Broker & Client Management

- Build and maintain broker and client relationships

- Lead negotiations on major accounts

- Support business development and pipeline growth

5. Financial Management

- Own casualty P&L including premium, loss ratio, and expenses

- Manage budgets and forecasts

- Achieve financial targets

6. Claims & Feedback Loop

- Oversee large and complex claims with claims teams

- Ensure feedback loop into underwriting

- Identify systemic issues and implement improvements

7. Regulatory & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., BNM)

- Maintain audit readiness and documentation standards

8. Team Leadership & Development

- Lead and develop underwriting team

- Build technical capability and succession pipeline

- Drive performance culture

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Combined ratio

- Loss ratio vs plan

- Profitable NWP growth

- Pricing adequacy

- Portfolio quality

Experience:

- Minimum 7+ years in casualty underwriting

- Leadership experience preferred

- Proven track record of portfolio performance

Technical Skills:

- Knowledge of General Liability, Product Liability and other Casualty products

- Strong underwriting and pricing expertise

- Strategic thinking
