- HSBC Market & Securities Services (MSS) provides integrated trading, financing, securities services and research, acting as a trusted partner to help clients navigate challenges whilst anticipating growth and innovation opportunities. - The Global Business Manager is accountable to the Global Operations Chief Operatiing Office (COO) to provide oversight; leadership; direction and execution on all BAU activities, in addition to helping shape the strategic direction of Funds and Global Distribution and Transfer Agency (GDTA) Operations. They will be responsible for the establishment and execution of a strict programme and culture of governance across the functions to ensure that it operates and delivers in a controlled manner.
- The role will cover all financial and headcount delivery and tracking, incorporating all aspects of programme investment and associated saves. The successful candidate will support the Global Head Securities Services Operations in the daily management of the function, C.2,000 full time employees across multiple locations. They will also be charged with running the oversight and governance of the Securities Services business growth pipeline and the direct cost impact to Operations.
- The Global Business Manager will interface with the Securities Services business and support areas e.g. Non-Financial Risk and Finance and will need to build robust, workable realtionships with each stakeholder.
- The purpose of the role is to lead the Business Management function for the level 5 Securities Services (SSV) Operations functions (Funds, GDTA, Investment Ops and Private Assets), providing support to the relevant Markets and Securities Services Operations SLT member on financial and headcount management; staff engagement and enablement; vendor and supplier management; strategy implementation, as well as other business advisory services when required. The role will work extremely closely with the SSV Ops Leadership Team to drive the growth and transformation agenda, supporting all new business globally across the operational footprint. The role will be based in Bangalore but will have a true global reach.
In this role, you will:
Leadership
- Set expectations, share best practice and manage, monitor, coach and develop the team to ensure that they maximise their performance, meet the required standards, and continuously develop their capabilities and experience
Cost Management
- Work in partnership with the Operations COO and MSS COO; Finance; Transformation and SSV Ops senior leadership team to manage the cost base. This will include managing the relevant governance forums across the platform to monitor and track commitments and delivery and ensure that Funds and GDTA is delivering to its commitments.
- Ownership of the direct and indirect cost base.
- Work closely with Cost Management to provide effective reporting on a regular [monthly] basis for all aspects of the cost base to monitor against targets and forecast.
- Review business allocations process with a view to simplifying the production and outcome in order to allocate cost simply and fairly to the Securities Services business for the services they receive.
Targets
- Budgetary plans remain on target and are achieved.
- Effective financial oversight - evidence of robust controls and reporting.
- Refined cost allocations are agreed and implemented.
Workforce Management:
- In conjunction with the MSS Central Workforce and Location Strategy Team establish processes and procedures to effectively manage the SSV Operations global workforce. This will include:
- Governance and tracking around all hiring and leavers across the platform
- Approval matrix and process for all hiring.
- Hiring; budgeting and tracking of all perms, contractors and consultants.
- Up to date MI of all filled; open and to be filled positions.
- Ensuring the work force plan is in line with commitments and reconciled to transformation projects.
Targets and Measures:
- Workforce plans is effectively used as the head count planning and tracking tool and is in line with cost targets and budgetary plans.
Strategic Direction and Operating Model:
- Working with the Global Head of SSV Ops and Senior Leadership Team to provide constructive challenge to existing practices/proposed initiatives and generate new and innovative solutions to address complex issues.
- Identify and execute on opportunities to drive cost efficiency, resulting in sustainable saves and achievement of cost targets
Benefit Realization:
- Responsible for the tracking and reporting of all benefit realization for all cost save initiatives.
- In conjunction with transformation; cost management; finance and MSS COO, manage a governance mechanism and structure to track and verify all program saves and report on a monthly basis.
- Tie all realized saves back to realized [and proven] PnL saves and work force plan.
Targets:
- All benefits are tracked to realization and reported to central program management.
Measures:
- Management of governance and tracking process to ensure the global head has up to date status reports of progress and forecast on all programs with benefits [cost / risk / client].
Stakeholder Management
- Establish a cadence and culture to manage all concerned stakeholders [to maximize relationships and achieve mutually beneficial, collaborative outcomes for all.
- Internally work seamlessly and collaboratively representing Operations interests with senior members from businesses and functions in appropriate forums and ongoing communications
People Agenda:
- Ensure a consistent global message across SSV Operations with relevant branding and support.
- Support and create innovative ways to inspire our people regardless of location or culture and help identify and promote the very best talent that we have.
- Support the MSS Operations People Enablement team in making the people agenda applicable to all staff, regardless of grade or location.
Targets:
- Create a communications and people framework across Funds and GDTA.
To be successful you will:
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of working within an Operations team, preferably with experience of working within the fast paced Markets and/or Securities Services business.
- Extensive Business Managerment experience at a senior level across a large process organisation within multi-national and multi-cultural financial institutions.
- Accounting, financial budgeting, with experience of analysing data effectively for planning, forecasting and reporting
- Proven ability in managing and coordinating geographically dispersed teams.
- Relationship management and collaboration skills: ability to form effective relationships and achieve influence with peers across the organisation.
- Deep understanding of HSBC structures, processes and objectives.
- Knowledge and experience of Global Capability Network Operations would be an advantage.
- How to use judgement and experience to determine how to handle complex requests and varying timescales; make judgements quickly and consistently.
- Ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language
