Job Description

Head of Business Development

This individual will lead the strategic and operational business development initiatives for the company with responsibility for identifying growth opportunities, building strong client relationships, managing the business development team, and ensuring alignment with VJ Bio’s long-term commercial goals. This is a senior leadership role that requires a blend of scientific understanding, strategic thinking, and commercial acumen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy to drive revenue growth across all service lines.
  • Identify, evaluate, and secure new business opportunities with biotech, pharma, and academic institutions globally.
  • Build and manage a high-performing business development team, including sales, product specialists, and marketing professionals.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including C-level executives, scientific leaders, and procurement teams.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (R&D, manufacturing, quality, program management) to ensure proposals are technically sound, competitively priced, and aligned with customer needs.
  • Own the sales pipeline and forecast, from lead generation to deal closure.
  • Represent VJ Bio at industry conferences, networking events, and client meetings to enhance brand visibility and establish thought leadership.
  • Monitor market trends, customer feedback, and competitor activity to inform strategic decision-making and guide portfolio expansion.
  • Develop pricing, contracting, and go-to-market strategies for new and existing offerings.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives to enhance customer experience and retention.

Required qualifications & experience:

  • 10–15 years of experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership roles in the biotechnology or life sciences industry, preferably in a CDMO or CRO environment.
  • Strong understanding of cell and gene therapy workflows, regulatory landscape, and service needs.
  • Proven track record of leading commercial teams and closing complex, high-value deals.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and manage diverse stakeholder expectations.
  • Strategic mindset with hands-on execution capability.
  • MBA or advanced degree in life sciences, biotechnology, or related field preferred.
