About the job Head of Accounting

RMA Group is a multi-sector organization with more than 9,000 employees and an operational presence in 17 countries. For 40 years, we have developed enduring partnerships to support the needs of our clients, underpinned by the core values of Innovation, Integrity and Endurance. Through its various businesses including RMA Automotive, Global Fleet Sales, Comin Asia and Express Food Group (EFG), RMA Group has established itself as the partner of choice for leading automotive, equipment, engineering services, and food brands in Southeast Asia and beyond.

Overview and purpose of the role

The Head of Accounting leads the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. The role ensures accurate and timely financial records, reliable inventory records and valuation, strong internal controls, and full compliance with statutory, tax and Group reporting requirements. It owns the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, inventory accounting and control, tax filings and the month-end and year-end close. It also builds a high-performing accounting team that supports the wider finance organisation across RMAC Group's divisions.

Key responsibilities:

1. Accounting Operations

  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed asset registers and inventory accounting.
  • Ensure the month-end and year-end close is accurate, complete and on time, with a published closing calendar and clear cut-off rules.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, prepayments and provisions, and approve non-routine entries.
  • Oversee revenue recognition, warranty and after-sales accounting, and the accounting for related-party and intercompany transactions.

2. Inventory Accounting and Control

  • Oversee inventory records for vehicles, spare parts, accessories and workshop stock across all locations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of stock receipts, issues, transfers, returns and adjustments, with correct cut-off at period end.
  • Oversee the costing of inventory, including landed cost (freight, import duty, clearing and other direct costs), and ensure costs are correctly capitalised.
  • Ensure inventory is valued in line with accounting standards at the lower of cost and net realisable value, and review provisions for slow-moving, obsolete and damaged stock.
  • Plan and supervise periodic and year-end physical stock counts and cycle counts, investigate variances and approve adjustments within delegated authority.
  • Reconcile the inventory subledger to the general ledger every month, including goods received not invoiced, goods in transit and consignment or demo stock.
  • Monitor stock levels, ageing and turnover, and report slow-moving stock and excess inventory to management.
  • Ensure inventory controls are in place over warehouse access, stock movements, vehicle identification numbers and the safeguarding of stock.
  • Ensure three-way matching between purchase orders, goods receipts and supplier invoices so inventory and payables are recorded correctly.
  • Provide inventory data and analysis to support purchasing, pricing, gross profit review and working capital management.

3. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules in line with applicable accounting standards (CIFRS) and RMA Group policies.
  • Provide accurate trial balances and accounting data to the Finance Manager and finance analysts for management reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepare Group reporting submissions, intercompany confirmations and consolidation inputs, including elimination schedules and intercompany stock profit adjustments where applicable.

4. Reconciliations and Data Integrity

  • Review all balance sheet reconciliations (bank, AR, AP, inventory, fixed assets, intercompany, accruals) and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensure supplier statements are reconciled regularly and customer balances are confirmed and followed up.
  • Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts, item master data, costing data and subledgers.

5. Tax and Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all tax returns (VAT, withholding tax, tax on income, salary tax, prepayment of tax) and other regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure import duties and taxes on inventory are correctly calculated, recorded and supported by customs documents.
  • Ensure payroll deductions and contributions, including NSSF, are correctly accounted for and remitted.
  • Monitor changes in tax law and regulation and update accounting practices accordingly.
  • Support tax audits and correspondence with the General Department of Taxation and other government bodies.

6. Internal Controls and Compliance

  • Design, implement and monitor internal controls over accounting and inventory transactions, including segregation of duties and approval limits.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures and SOPs, and ensure compliance with company, Group and local requirements.
  • Strengthen the AP workflow (invoice receipt, three-way matching, approval, payment scheduling) so suppliers are paid accurately and on time.
  • Ensure proper document retention and audit trails.

7. Audit Coordination

  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external auditors.
  • Coordinate auditor attendance at stock counts and provide inventory valuation and provision workings.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documents, respond to queries, and track the resolution of audit findings and management letter points.

8. Accounting Systems and Process Improvement

  • Maintain and improve accounting systems, templates and workflows.
  • Work with the IT department on Odoo accounting and inventory configuration (including costing methods, stock valuation and warehouse workflows), raising clear fix, improvement and new-development requests, and testing the results before release.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes and shorten the close.

9. Team Leadership and Development

  • Supervise, train, coach and develop accounting staff, including those handling inventory.
  • Allocate workload, set deadlines and review the quality of team output.
  • Plan team coverage and cross-training so critical tasks never depend on one person.

10. Support to Finance Management

  • Support budgeting, forecasting and management reporting with timely and accurate accounting and inventory data.
  • Partner with the Finance Manager and CFO on ad hoc financial analysis and special projects.

11. Cost Control and Efficiency

  • Monitor accounting-related costs and inventory losses and write-offs, and identify efficiency gains.
  • Promote best practice to improve the accuracy and turnaround time of accounting deliverables.

HR Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures affecting the accounting team, including onboarding, performance management and training plans.
  • Prepare HR-related reports for the accounting function as the company requires.
  • Report functionally to the Finance Manager and CFO on accounting team matters.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Assist the Finance Manager and CFO in preparing the annual accounting budget and monitor departmental expenditure.
  • Review and approve routine accounting expenditure proposals and inventory adjustments within delegated authority, ensuring compliance with Group and legal requirements.

Background and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. ACCA, CPA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
  • Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting operations and the month-end and year-end close.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory accounting, costing, stock counts and inventory controls.
  • Experience in automotive, distribution, trading or a similar multi-entity group environment is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and reporting standards (CIFRS, IFRS, including inventory standards), Cambodian tax regulations and statutory obligations.
  • Understanding of internal control systems, segregation of duties and audit procedures.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting, fixed assets, inventory costing and valuation, and intercompany and consolidation accounting.
  • Proficiency in ERP and accounting software (Odoo preferred, including its inventory module) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
