This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Silo Ridge Field Club, set in beautiful Amenia, New York.

Silo Ridge Field Club is seeking a Head Lifeguard to join our Outdoor Pursuits Department. This position is seasonal from May 18 – September 28, 2026. **current lifeguard certification is required.**

This role is ideal for an experienced lifeguard who is confident leading a team, enforcing safety standards, and maintaining a high level of professionalism on deck. The Head Lifeguard is responsible not only for active lifeguarding duties, but also for supervising daily guard operations, facilitating chair rotations, supporting cleanliness and organization of the aquatic areas, and assisting the Director of Outdoor Pursuits with day-to-day challenges and member needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise guards on duty and facilitate lifeguard chair/zone rotations.
• Set expectations for professionalism, attentiveness, and rule enforcement.
• Support training, coaching, and ongoing readiness of the lifeguard team.
• Work directly with the Outdoor Pursuits Manager to identify and implement solutions to member concerns and operational challenges.

• Maintain constant surveillance of pool and lake activity to ensure the safety of all members and guests.
• Identify hazards, prevent incidents, and respond quickly and professionally in emergencies.
• Provide ongoing risk management for aquatic areas, including pool deck, beach areas, and water slide operations.

• Enforce all pool and lake safety rules consistently and respectfully.
• Maintain a controlled, safety-first environment at all times.
• Report any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or maintenance issues immediately to the Director of Outdoor Pursuits.

• Maintain an organized, clean, and professional appearance of aquatic areas throughout the day.
• Take ownership of the overall cleanliness and organization vision for the pool complex.
• Ensure daily set-up and breakdown of aquatic equipment and safety supplies is completed.
• Coordinate with the Outdoor Pursuits team to ensure a constant flow of towels in/out of the pool complex and towel stations remain stocked.

• Provide first aid treatment when necessary
• Participate in drills and maintain readiness for emergency situations
• Attend required meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions
• Perform additional duties as assigned
• Lead lifeguard staff in regular trainings.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience working in an aquatic environment preferred
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred (Head Guard, Lead Guard, Pool Supervisor, etc.)
• Current Lifeguard and Waterfront Safety certifications required
• CPR / AED / First Aid certification required
• Ability to follow oral and written directions in English (additional languages a plus)

• Ability to stay calm, alert, and focused in high-volume environments
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
• Ability to work independently and lead within a team environment
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role including standing/walking for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
• Flexibility and willingness to assist with shifting operational needs
