Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Head Greenkeeper to lead the Greenkeeping and Estates team at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club Reporting directly to the Director of Golf and Estates, you will be responsible for the daily management, presentation, and performance of the golf course and wider estate.

About Hanbury Manor

Part of the Marriott Hotel Group, Hanbury Manor features a championship golf course designed and built under the supervision of Jack Nicklaus II and Golden Bear Design Associates

We maintain a modern Toro machinery fleet and operate a Rain Bird irrigation system with full-course coverage, supported by Rain Bird Cirrus 8 software

In addition to the championship course, the estate includes:

  • A professional sports training facility used by international teams
  • Extensive landscaped grounds and gardens, including a historic walled garden

Hanbury Manor has proudly hosted numerous major tournaments, including:

  • European Tour: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2020
  • Legends Tour: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024
  • Ladies European Tour: 1996, 2025, and returning July 2026

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead and manage the daily operation of the Greenkeeping and Estates department
  • Develop and implement work programmes in collaboration with the Director of Golf and Estates
  • Ensure the course and estate are presented to the highest possible standards
  • Utilise knowledge of maintenance, construction, and renovation practices across all turf and landscape areas
  • Support tournament preparation and delivery
  • Maintain an efficient, motivated, and high-performing team

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for an individual who demonstrates strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a passion for turf management. Ideally, you will bring:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Self-motivation with a positive, practical “can‑do” attitude
  • 2–3 years’ experience as a Deputy Head Greenkeeper or in a comparable leadership role
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf; BSc in Turfgrass Science desirable
  • PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certifications
  • Basic chainsaw qualifications (advantageous but not essential)
  • Knowledge of irrigation operation and repairs, especially modern systems
  • Competence in turf equipment setup and basic mechanical skills
  • Flexibility to meet business needs, including weekend work
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver consistently high standards
  • A commitment to professional development within the turfgrass industry
  • Tournament experience (an advantage)
