As a leading member of Takeda’s Global Environment and Sustainability Team, this role leads the strategic operations of Takeda’s Planet Imperative, working across the enterprise to ensure execution to meet our ambitious commitments and alignment with internal and external stakeholders. This role works to develop and implement effective strategies to minimize our environmental footprint while supporting our mission to develop and deliver life-saving medications to patients. Theprimaryfocusareas for the role include:
Creating and implementing a comprehensive governance structure and implementation strategy which positions Takeda to achieve its stated environmental sustainability goals and objectives.
Defining and conducting Planet strategy deployment processes, encompassing both long-term strategic planning and organization of annual initiatives across all relevant Planet program areas, including ensuring alignment with critical supporting business functions and key stakeholders across the enterprise.
Establishing and facilitating operating and communications mechanisms to achieve necessary transparency, prioritization and execution oversight of cross-functional Planet objectives and metrics.
Managing the budget and long-range planning exercises to ensure the Planet team stays on target.
Leading, coaching and mentoring various Planet program team members to ensure consistent application of the Planet program maturity model and best practices across the environmental sustainability portfolio.
Leads Planet data systems and analytics to ensure necessary data integrity, automation and forecasting to facilitate strategy and execution of goals.
Supports Global Head of Environment and Sustainability in the development and execution of Takeda’s environmental sustainability strategy, including long-term sustainability goals and programs for achieving net-zero GHG emissions.
Facilitating executive positioning and presentations where needed for leadership.
Supports data gathering and validation efforts to support internal and external environmental sustainability reporting.
Leads Planet data systems and analytics team, partnering with DD&T to ensure Planet data systems support robust KPIs to drive business decision making and prioritization that will advance Takeda’s Planet Imperative.
Participates with peer groups for benchmarking, identification of best practices and partnering activities.
Maintain strategic alignment between various stakeholders (e.g., Global Manufacturing & Supply Communications, Global Corporate Affairs, Global Finance, Global Distribution & Logistics, R&D, Ethics & Compliance etc.) and within Takeda’s business structure to drive progress toward Planet objectives. Ensure the Planet strategic portfolio is fully aligned and supported by all cross-functional efforts.
Represent Takeda in external forums as appropriate, sharing best practices and advocating for the company’s environmental policies and initiatives.
Ensure progress across Takeda’s Planet imperative and commitments by managing strategic planning, executive presentations, and other related activities.
Supports development of environmental sustainability standards, SOPs, tools, and trainings.
Engage key stakeholders and support strategic collaborations to reduce risks to Takeda’s net-zero roadmap.
Ensure adequate and stable governance of all environmental sustainability programs according to the documented Planet governance standard and maturity model. Deploy regular continuous improvement initiatives as needed.
Lead the execution of critical Planet operating mechanisms, including executive sponsor updates, operating team meetings, budget management, and Planet workshops.
Coordinate activities, prioritization, and interdependencies across programs to ensure successful resolution of conflicts, utilization of resources, and on-time delivery of milestones.
Deliver Planet stakeholder management responsibilities including monthly update, quarterly metrics reporting and ad hoc stakeholder engagements as needed
Deploy and maintain appropriate MS Teams and SharePoint structures to organize Planet information and control access according to Takeda policy.
Build and strengthen program management capabilities within the environmental program management team and manage program assignments according to Planet needs and personnel development objectives.
On an as-needed basis, provide direct program management support and/or liaise directly with stakeholder/functional partners, deliver special projects at the direction of the Global Head of Environment and Sustainability.
Required: Bachelors degree in scientific fields such as Environmental, Sustainability, Chemistry or Engineering is preferred.
Preferred: PhD or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing/Communications, Environmental Management, Sustainability and/or other science-related degrees such as Engineering.
10+ years’ experience in a similar or related corporate or consultancy sustainability role, ideally within pharmaceutical manufacturing industry or an industry of similar complexity and structure.
5+ years’ experience in Program/Project Management. Biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry experience highly desirable.
Expert in sustainability related data measurement, tracking, analytics tools and management programs a plus.
Must thrive in a highly collaborative environment, and delight in developing clarity from ambiguous environments. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to find solutions to challenges.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. Very strong ability to align and collaborate with others and work cross-functionally.
Outstanding communications skills including the ability to interact with all levels of management including the most senior leaders in Takeda. Must be able to tailor communications to deliver the same content to vastly different audiences.
Must be able to directly link, capture and articulate to others, the business value of environmental sustainability.
Functions well under pressure in a changing environment. Uses independent judgment to identify, plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload as required.
Must be proficient in the application of MS Office tools; Experience with enterprise PPM software a plus.

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$177,000.00 - $278,080.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
