Job Purpose:

Head - Direct Tax is responsible for leading the organization’s direct tax strategy and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role involves strategic tax planning, governance, litigation management, and stakeholder collaboration while fostering a high-performing team. It aligns tax policies with business goals, mitigates risks, and optimizes tax efficiency across the group.

1. Strategic Tax Planning and Policy Development

Develop and oversee the group’s direct tax strategy, aligning with business and regulatory requirements.

Formulate long-term tax policies to minimize liabilities and optimize organizational tax efficiency.

Provide strategic insights on direct tax implications of business decisions and transactions.

Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in tax processes and policy frameworks.

2. Governance and Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulatory standards across all business units.

Monitor tax filings, audits, and provisions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines.

Collaborate with regulatory authorities to resolve compliance-related matters.

Establish robust governance mechanisms for tax reporting and audit processes.

3. Litigation and Risk Management

Represent the organization in high-stakes tax audits and litigation cases.

Collaborate with legal advisors to manage disputes and ensure favorable outcomes.

Conduct risk assessments to identify tax-related exposures and implement mitigation strategies.

Oversee the resolution of complex tax issues and maintain strong defense documentation.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration

Partner with senior leaders, BU heads, and external advisors to address tax-related challenges.

Communicate changes in tax laws and policies to internal and external stakeholders.

Liaise with government authorities to address tax inquiries and represent the organization effectively.

Build strong networks with industry experts for benchmarking and knowledge sharing.

5. Team Leadership and Development

Build and mentor a high-performing team of direct tax professionals.

Promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning across the tax team.

Monitor team performance and align goals with organizational priorities.

Provide guidance and training to develop technical and functional competencies.
