Job Description

Let's Write Africa's Story Together!

Old Mutual is a firm believer in the African opportunity and our diverse talent reflects this.

The Head of Digital, Data & Analytics (DDA) enables and accelerates digital transformation and data-driven value creation across the OMAR portfolio. The role sets direction, standards, and governance for DDA (aligned to Old Mutual Limited standards), builds and transitions country capabilities based on maturity and transition plans, and provides shared services where countries do not yet have sufficient capability.

Responsibilities

Strategy and operating model for DDA in OMAR

  • Define and maintain a DDA strategic direction and roadmap for OMAR aligned to Group priorities, focusing on measurable business outcomes.

  • Translate portfolio priorities into an implementable operating model, clarifying what is held centrally (platforms, governance, select shared services) versus delivered in countries.

Standards, governance, and assurance (aligned to OML)

  • Provide oversight of DDA standards (data, analytics, AI/automation practices) and ensure adherence to OML standards, controls, and policies.

  • Establish and maintain fit-for-purpose governance forums, artefacts, and reporting for OMAR DDA matters.

Country capability building and transition management

  • Drive establishment of DDA capabilities in countries (people, processes, tools), guided by capability assessments and transition plans.

  • Enable transfer of work to countries over time, ensuring clear handover conditions, readiness, and sustained performance.

Shared platforms and services for countries

  • Provide data platform and analytics services for countries that still require shared capability (until local capability is established).

  • Enable consistent, scalable data foundations and analytics capabilities across varied country maturity levels.

AI transformation enablement

  • Drive AI transformation via a community of practice, promoting responsible and value-led adoption.

  • Support prioritisation and scaling of AI/advanced analytics use cases and intelligent automation, while ensuring appropriate ethics, privacy, and security practices.

Digital demand management and value tracking

  • Manage digital demand across countries, balancing competing priorities and dependencies with OML tightly-held digital assets.

  • Drive a clear understanding and reporting of the value generated by digital and data assets in countries (growth, efficiency, risk reduction, customer experience).

Analytics enablement for finance and business performance (incl. D365)

  • Enable D365 financial analytics and other performance insights capabilities (where applicable), supporting improved decision-making and reporting.

Stakeholder management and representation

  • Build relationships with OML and countries to improve capability maturity and execution outcomes.

  • Represent OMAR on OML forums and OMAR committees dealing with DDA matters.

People leadership and team effectiveness

  • Lead and develop a small team of digital, data, and analytics experts, ensuring delivery focus, role clarity, and effective ways of working.

Horizon scanning and continuous improvement

  • Stay on top of global DDA developments and emerging technologies and translate relevant insights into strategic focus areas and best practices for OMAR.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ( REQUIRED FOR THE JOB)

  • 10+ years’ experience across digital transformation, data & analytics, technology enablement, or related leadership roles.

  • Demonstrated experience setting and executing enterprise / portfolio-level DDA strategy and roadmaps tied to business outcomes.
