Job Description

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority welcomes exceptional talent with a passion to realise the vision and mission of making the West Kowloon Cultural District a prime local and international destination for arts, culture and entertainment.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Head, Development (Performing Arts) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for directing the overarching fundraising and development strategy for WestK Performing Arts. This position will oversee the entire Performing Arts Development business unit, providing strategic direction, robust managerial oversight, and capacity-building for the team. The successful candidate will drive high-level donor and sponsor networks, cultivate major gifts, and ensure the unit operates at peak efficiency to meet ambitious revenue targets while aligning with WKCDA’s broader performing arts vision.

You will be responsible for:

  • Strategic Leadership & Team Management: Leading the Development team of the Performing Art Unit under WestK to guide, supervise, mentor, and manage work performance for all team members, ensuring they meet KPIs to enhance fundraising, sponsorship, and membership success rates.

  • Capacity Building: Assessing current team capabilities, implementing best practices in development and management, and upskilling the team to enhance overall efficiency, accountability, and core fundraising competencies.

  • Development Strategy: Driving the overarching strategy to expand the pool of major donors, corporate sponsors, naming, and philanthropic partners to support WKCDA's performing arts programs, capital projects, and operational needs.

  • Major Gifts & Sponsorships: Leading the high-level cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects, C-suite corporate executives, and serving as the primary closer for significant contributions.

  • Program Oversight: Directing the strategic rollout and optimization of individual giving, fundraising activities, membership programs, and donor relations, ensuring all collateral and pitches possess highly compelling, unique selling points.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Forging strong, collaborative relationships with internal key stakeholders—including Performing Arts programming teams, Marketing, Branding, and Partnerships—to ensure strategic alignment and the development of powerful funding narratives.

  • Financial & Data Oversight: Overseeing the unit's budget, revenue projections, and fundraising metrics; analysing performance data to provide the Director of Development and the Executive Director of Performing Art with accurate revenue forecasts and strategic recommendations.

  • Compliance & Governance: Ensuring all development activities, sponsorships, and major gifts comply with internal governance, ethical fundraising standards, and data privacy regulations.

  • General Duties: Performing any other duties from time to time as the Authority may reasonably direct.

You should:

  • possess a recognised university degree in Business, Arts Administration, Marketing, or a related discipline;

  • have at least 12 to 15 years of extensive experience in development, corporate sponsorship, and philanthropic fundraising, including a minimum of 8 years in a senior leadership and team management capacity;

  • possess exceptional managerial skills with a proven ability to lead, restructure, and elevate the performance of a diverse team of fundraising professionals;

  • have a highly successful, demonstrable track record of personally closing significant major gifts and securing large-scale corporate sponsorships;

  • possess strong business acumen, strategic planning capabilities, and experience managing departmental budgets and revenue pipelines;

  • have outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the gravitas to interact effectively with Board members, C-suite executives, and high-net-worth individuals;

  • have a deep understanding of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship best practices, preferably with experience in arts and cultural organisations; and

  • have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.

About West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

Stretching across 40 hectares of reclaimed land, WestK is one of the largest cultural projects in the world, blending art, education and open space.

Its vision is to create a vibrant cultural quarter for Hong Kong where the local arts scene can interact, develop and collaborate. Providing 23 hectares of public open space with two kilometres of vibrant harbour-front promenade it will also include a variety of arts and cultural facilities that will produce and host world-class exhibitions, performances and arts and cultural events.

A Development Plan for the District, based on well-received Foster + Partner’s Conceptual Plan, was approved by the Chief Executive-in-Council in January 2013. Overlooking the magnificent Victoria Harbour, the District will begin to take shape over the next decade.

By developing this sizable project in phases we can start to bring the district to life. The Xiqu Centre, Freespace, Art Park, M+, Hong Kong Palace Museum and Lyric Theatre Complex, will be developed as a first batch of facilities aiming for opening to the public.
