The opportunity

You lead and manage the design organization responsible for control and protection systems within Hitachi, Ltd. This role entails overseeing the full design lifecycle, ensuring technical excellence, innovation, and adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements.

How you will make an impact

  • Define and implement the strategic vision for the Control & Protection design organization, aligning it with Hitachi's overall business objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the end-to-end design process for control and protection systems, from conceptualization and requirements gathering to detailed design, testing, and implementation support.
  • Establish and enforce robust design methodologies, standards, and best practices to ensure product quality, reliability, and safety.
  • Drive research and development initiatives to incorporate cutting-edge technologies and advancements in control and protection systems.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, manufacturing, sales, and service teams to ensure seamless product development and market success.
  • Manage project portfolios, including resource allocation, budget control, and timeline adherence for all design projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal company policies.
  • Act as a technical expert and thought leader, providing guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with design projects, ensuring proactive problem-solving.

Your background

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • You bring at least 15 years of progressive experience in the design and development of control and protection systems, ideally within power generation, transmission, or industrial automation.
  • You have proven experience in a leadership or management role, successfully leading technical teams of significant size and complexity.
  • You possess a strong understanding of relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI) and regulatory requirements for control and protection systems.
  • You have expertise in control architectures, communication protocols, and protection philosophies.
  • You demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • You communicate effectively, with excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, and can clearly articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • You have a track record of driving innovation, managing change, and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • You are experienced in using project management methodologies and tools.
  • You are fluent in English; proficiency in Japanese is considered a strong asset.
