Head Custodian

Hours 5:30 AM-2:00 PM

Qualifications:

1. High-school diploma or equivalent
2. Experience in custodial or facilities work preferred
3. Ability to perform basic cleaning and minor maintenance tasks
4. Ability to lead and direct custodial staff
5. Ability to prioritize work and stay organized
6. Ability to communicate clearly with staff and supervisors
7. Ability to use email and the work order system to receive, update, and complete assigned work
8. Ability to work independently with limited supervision
9. Core Responsibilities:
10. Building Operations
11. Monitor building systems and report issues through work order system
12. Perform basic maintenance tasks (lights, filters, and minor fixes defined as quick, low-risk tasks that can be completed in under 30 minutes, without specialized training or permits)
13. Complete assigned work orders, provide updates, and close out tasks in the system
14. Cleanliness & Appearance
15. a. Maintain consistent cleaning standards across all areas
16. b. Ensure public-facing spaces are clean, presentable, and welcoming
17. c. Support events with efficient setup and teardown
18. Team Leadership
19. Direct daily work of custodial staff
20. Ensure work is completed to standard
21. Train and support custodial team members
22. Grounds & Exterior Support
23. Maintain entrances, sidewalks, and immediate exterior areas
24. Support seasonal needs (snow and ice removal, basic upkeep, etc)
25. Communication & Planning
26. Submit and track work orders
27. Manage supplies and inventory
28. Communicate building needs to Director of Facilities
29. Flexibility & Support Across Buildings
30. Provide support at other district facilities as needed
31. Adjust schedule or location based on district priorities
32. Additional Responsibilities
33. Perform all other duties as assigned to support district operations and priorities

Terms of employment: 260 days (twelve months)

Salary is based on NBESS contract. Starting wage depends on experience. Minimum starting wage is $19.25 per hour plus IMRF.
