Join Buckeye Union School District as a Head Custodian and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Head Custodian will lead daily custodial operations at an assigned school site and support the effective care of school facilities, grounds, equipment, and supplies.

This position is at our Rolling Hills Middle School located in El Dorado Hills. Work hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday/12 month position.

Position Overview

The Head Custodian is responsible for coordinating and performing custodial services, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, monitoring facility conditions, and providing direction to custodial staff as assigned. This position requires strong organization, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with school administrators, staff, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform daily custodial operations, including cleaning classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and other school facilities
• Provide direction, training, and support to custodial staff as assigned
• Establish and maintain cleaning schedules to ensure facilities are prepared for school activities and events
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and appearance throughout the school site
• Operate, clean, and maintain custodial equipment, tools, and supplies
• Monitor inventory levels and request cleaning products, paper goods, and other supplies as needed
• Inspect buildings and grounds for safety hazards, maintenance needs, vandalism, or damage, and report concerns promptly
• Assist with setting up and taking down furniture, equipment, and facilities for meetings, school programs, and special events
• Maintain exterior areas, including walkways, entrances, and assigned grounds, as needed
• Follow established procedures for chemical handling, hazardous materials, sanitation, and workplace safety
• Respond to urgent cleaning, safety, and facility needs in a timely and professional manner
• Communicate effectively with school administrators, staff, students, visitors, and district personnel
• Maintain accurate records, including work orders, supply usage, inspections, and other required documentation
• Protect confidential information and support a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous experience in custodial, building maintenance, facilities operations, or groundskeeping required; lead or supervisory experience preferred
• Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning products, sanitation practices, and facility maintenance procedures
• Ability to safely operate and maintain custodial equipment and basic hand tools
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, safety data sheets, schedules, and procedures
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and provide direction to others
• Reliability, dependability, and commitment to maintaining high facility standards
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull supplies and equipment, and perform physically demanding custodial tasks
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
