Our client is a well-established gastropub located in Marsalforn, Gozo, offering a relaxed dining experience with a varied menu inspired by Italian and Mediterranean cuisine.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen team and oversee the daily kitchen operations at this popular venue in Marsalforn.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high food quality and consistency, managing the kitchen team, controlling costs, and ensuring an efficient and well-organised kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the kitchen team, ensuring smooth daily operations.
• Oversee food preparation, cooking, and presentation to consistently high standards.
• Maintain the quality, taste, and presentation of all dishes.
• Develop and update menu items in line with the restaurant's concept and customer preferences.
• Ensure food is prepared using fresh, quality ingredients and appropriate cooking techniques.
• Manage kitchen stock, ordering, portion control, and food costs.
• Monitor waste and implement effective cost-control measures.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen.
• Train, motivate, and support kitchen staff to ensure strong teamwork and performance.
• Coordinate effectively with the Front of House team to ensure smooth service.
• Manage kitchen operations during busy services while maintaining quality and efficiency.
• Monitor supplier deliveries and ensure ingredients are stored correctly.
• Contribute to the development of new dishes and seasonal menu ideas.

Requirements

• Currently residing in Gozo.
• Minimum three years of experience as a Head Chef, Sous Chef, or in a similar senior kitchen position.
• Strong experience within a restaurant or gastropub environment.
• Good knowledge of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine.
• Strong leadership and team-management skills.
• Excellent knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and presentation.
• Good understanding of food costing, stock control, and kitchen purchasing.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
• Ability to remain organised and composed during busy services.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Passion for quality food and delivering a consistently high standard.
• Food Handling Licence is a must.
• Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays when required.
