Position Summary
The Head Camp Counselor plays a key leadership role at Camp Seagull. This position is responsible for overseeing an assigned age group, guiding daily activities, and supporting the performance and development of counseling staff. Head Camp Counselors work closely with the Camp Director, Assistant Directors, and Activity Specialists to ensure a well-organized, engaging, and safe camp experience. This role is ideal for individuals with prior camp or youth leadership experience who are motivated to take ownership, mentor others, and contribute to a high-quality program.
Key Responsibilities
- • Supervise and support a team of counselors, providing leadership, guidance, and ongoing feedback
- • Partner with the Camp Director and Assistant Directors to plan and execute daily schedules and age-appropriate programming
- • Ensure all camp policies, safety procedures, and health standards are consistently followed
- • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for campers and staff
- • Address camper behavior concerns promptly and appropriately in accordance with camp guidelines
- • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding camper experiences, concerns, and successes
- • Assist with the planning and execution of special events, themed days, and outings
- • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, incidents, and staff observations
- • Participate in staff training, leadership development, and required meetings
- • Attend pre-camp orientation and parent and counselor meet-and-greet events as scheduled

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while remaining calm and organized
• Sound judgment and the ability to make decisions that prioritize safety and camper well-being
• Availability to commit to the full summer schedule and program requirements
Preferred

Qualifications
• Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role within a camp or youth program
• Background or training in education, youth development, recreation, or a related field
• Experience supervising staff, mentoring peers, or coordinating group activities
• Knowledge of basic first aid, emergency procedures, or risk management practices
Schedule and Employment Details
• Summer seasonal position
• Monday through Friday, typically 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
• Part-time and full-time opportunities may be available based on program needs
