General Schedule:
Expected work schedule is Monday through Friday with nights and weekends. As an exempt employee, schedule may vary based on the number of hours needed to meet the job responsibilities. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning and/or evening to meet the needs of the department. Working schedule may consists of intermittent non-traditional business hours, including but not limited to working nights and weekends associated with athletic events and practices. Travel may be required.
Oversee and supervise all functions of sports medicine in the athletic department including but not limited to injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and prehabilitation. Responsibilities include management and supervision of personnel, effective scheduling, insurance processes, inventory management, strength and conditioning program, and nutrition program.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be able to effectively conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment. Evaluate athletes' readiness to engage in collegiate athletics and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted. Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists. Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches, physicians, or designee. Coordinate and collaborate with team physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries. Care for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, and/or medication.
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills. Computer proficiency preferably in the Microsoft Suite. Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and interact professionally with all segments of the University community. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to make policy and procedure decisions. Must be detail oriented. Capacity for growth and leadership.
Qualifications Required:
Proof of passing Board of Certification (BOC) exam and ATC credential. Master's degree in Athletic Training, or bachelor's degree in Athletic Training if received prior to 2022, plus 5+ years of experience as an athletic trainer. CPR/AED Rescue and First Aid Certification. Must have or obtain Oklahoma State Athletic Training License within 30 days of employment.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
Three years of experience as a Head Athletic Trainer, and five years of certified athletic training experience.
