Job Description

Sarasota Memorial First Physicians Group is seeking to employ a Physician Assistant to join a rapidly growing Head & Neck Oncology Program. Conveniently located on Sarasota Memorial Hospital - Sarasota, the hired Physician Assistant will join an additional PA and two Surgeons.

Position Highlights

  • Full time, 40-hours / week
  • Responsibilities in OR, clinic, and rounding in SMH-Sarasota.
  • First Assist in OR – free flaps, robotics, inspire, cosmetic facial plastics.
  • In clinic, seeing post-operative patients with future plan to manage survivorship clinic.
  • 1:4 weekend rounding responsibilities.
  • Experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate.

SMH – Sarasota, an 897-bed hospital, is the only hospital in Sarasota County providing Level II Trauma, Level III NICU, pediatric services and behavioral health for people of all ages. Located on the Sarasota campus is The Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute, opened in 2021 provides 56 private suites for hospitalized cancer patients, nine (9) state of the art operating rooms with a dedicated robotic surgery suite and integrative care services offering patient navigation and family/caregiver support.

A new Outpatient Cancer Pavilion is under construction and will open in June 2026 with additional radiation oncology, surgical and medical oncology capabilities to facilitate effective multidisciplinary care.

'The Physician Assistant (PA) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The PA III typically works in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist, procedures (chest tube, line placement, etc), multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care, trauma, and surgery. A PA is a graduate with a master’s degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).'

Required Qualifications

- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).- Require bachelor degree from accredited physician assistant training program.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prefer ability to work independently and collaboratively.- Prefer demonstrated written & verbal communication & strong analytical skills.- Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting.- Prefer demonstrated clinical competency skills.- Prefer demonstrated knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to health care practice and current prescription writing skills/DEA licensing.- Prefer demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing.- Prefer effective interaction skills to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting.- Prefer effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills.- Prefer knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations.- Prefer knowledge of state, federal and local health care agencies and programs.
