Job Description
The Driller/Locator is responsible for operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment on WesTower sites and projects. This individual works in concert with others to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations are executed in accordance with design specifications.

Job Responsibilities
• To complete HDD work safely and in accordance with all industry best practices and customer design requirements
• Responsible for drill path locating and the operation of HDD units
• Must continually be aware of working conditions and not proceed with work if it endangers other workers, customers, and/or the public.
• Advises company personnel on equipment service requirements and safety guidelines – and conducts ongoing maintenance that falls within the operator scope
• Reads and reviews utility locates for power, gas, telecommunications, and other underground services and applies knowledge and understanding to their safe application.
• Delivers quality work to the standard required to satisfy customer needs.
• Applies due diligence, ensuring accuracy in preparing and promptly completing all necessary documentations, equipment log, and FLHA.
• Assists with construction clean-up as necessary.
• May perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Requirements
• Valid AB Ground Disturbance certificate
• Valid driver’s license minimum Class 5, clean abstract, and own vehicle.
• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
• Physically fit and able to bend, kneel, climb, and lift (up to 75 lbs.).
• Minimum 1 year of HDD equipment operating experience required.
• Previous experience using technical and diagnostic tools (Sub-site equipment).
• Prior experience in underground telecommunication, power, and or natural gas construction
• Knowledge of utility depths, placement standards, and general construction practices.
• Knowledge and experience in various drills and locating equipment with respect to troubleshooting, safe operations, and general maintenance
• Strong ability and understanding of the operation of HDD locating equipment, including safe operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
• Mechanically inclined problem solver who brings a strong work ethic to meeting production and safety targets every day
• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather (i.e., snow, rain, wind, etc.) if required.
Work Conditions
• Ability to work in various environments/settings with moderate to loud noise levels
• Equipped to work in trenches, manholes, and tunnels
• Prepared to sit, stand, stop, crouch, reach, and lift for long periods of time
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Valid AB Class 5 Driver’s License
• Overtime and travel, as required.
