This is a transformative leadership opportunity to help shape one of the nation’s most innovative cancer campuses; launching a major new endeavor to advance research, health care transformation, and equitable access to cancer prevention and care across the Mountain West.

The Deputy Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for all research activities at the Huntsman Cancer Institute Vineyard Campus. The Vineyard Campus represents a major expansion of Huntsman Cancer Institute and a unique opportunity to advance cancer research, health care transformation, and equitable access to care across the Mountain West. In fall 2028, Phase 1A will open, comprised of a new state-of-the-art ambulatory cancer center and research facility1A. The successful candidate will work closely with Huntsman Cancer Institute leadership, University of Utah Health, department and division leaders across the University of Utah, faculty, trainees, community partners, and industry collaborators to establish Vineyard as a nationally recognized hub for innovation in cancer research, computational oncology, clinical trials, and community-engaged cancer care.

About Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Vineyard Campus

Huntsman Cancer Institute serves the five-state Mountain West region (Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming), an area characterized by large rural and frontier populations and significant geographic barriers to cancer care. Guided by the vision: “Passionate individuals and teams, delivering a cancer-free frontier, through scientific discovery and human touch,” Huntsman Cancer Institute is nationally recognized not only for its exceptional scientific research and clinical care, but also for pioneering innovative models that address “distance as a disparity.” These include decentralized clinical trials, digital health, precision oncology, and community partnerships.

Huntsman Cancer Institute Vineyard Campus represents a major expansion beyond Salt Lake City and is designed to become a national destination for cancer research innovation and care transformation. Located adjacent to Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, and Silicon Slopes, Huntsman Cancer Institute in Vineyard will foster unique collaborations at the intersection of oncology, AI, engineering, data science, entrepreneurship, and community health.

The campus will integrate four synergistic strategic focus areas:

  • Health Care Transformation
  • AI, Data Science & Digital Oncology
  • Innovation in Clinical Trials
  • Community Outreach & Engagement

Together, these areas will create a powerful ecosystem where research discoveries rapidly translate to the community, including scalable, technology-enabled care models that improve outcomes across the Mountain West. Learn more about the project: www.huntsmancancer.org/vineyard.

Huntsman Cancer Institute is committed to cancer prevention, care, and survivorship for all communities within the area we serve – which includes Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming – with impact worldwide.
