Job Description

The Hazardous Waste/Materials Handling Specialist monitors, packages, labels and transports for disposal all of the Company's hazardous wastes and materials for assigned facility location in accordance with Duncan Aviation approved procedures. In addition, this position assists with containment and clean-up of hazardous wastes and materials spills; and assists facility maintenance with cleaning, repairs and snow removal as needed.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Monitors hazardous waste and hazardous materials for proper marking, labeling and storage. Properly packages and labels hazardous waste and hazardous material containers according to DOT and EPA regulations. Transports hazardous waste and materials, in the appropriate containers, from the point of accumulation or point of delivery to the point of storage as required by local, state and federal regulations. Assists with containment and clean-up operations related to hazardous wastes and materials spills.
  2. Properly packages and labels for hazardous and universal waste containers according to DOT and EPA regulations. Performs weighing and documentation of hazardous wastes for CESQG sites to ensure proper generator status for compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
  3. Assists the safety department in its operations by performing various inspections on emergency apparatuses and documents inspections as required.
  4. Maintains inventory of chemical materials and cleanliness and orderliness of chemical building.
  5. Conducts recycling and minimization activities of non-disposable materials (i.e., batteries, cellphones, aerosol cans, oil, etc.).
  6. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Job Specific Requirements

  • Licenses/Certificates: Initial and Recurrent Hazardous Waste Operator Training; Initial and Recurrent Confined Space Certification; 49CFR US Hazardous Materials Transportation Regulations; Forklift and Scissor Lift Certification; Respirator Fit qualified. Must have a valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required; on-call 24/7
  • Physical: Routinely lifts up to 50 lbs.; occasionally up to 100 lbs.; reads small print; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates products, materials, and fumes associated with component maintenance; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and climbing; identifies colors
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and in noisy environments

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One year experience working with hazardous waste and/or materials or equivalent required
  • Current Certification as a Hazardous Material Handler preferred
