Hazardous Materials Operator Lead in GAC Savannah

Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. 7 years hazardous materials activities. 2 years leadership experience and recognized leadership qualities. Position PurposeCoordinates and controls the operation of assigned hazardous materials functions, ensuring that all materials are processed in a responsive manner and adhere to corporate quality and safety and environmental standards; instructs department personnel in policies, procedures and environmental/safety regulations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
  1. Monitors the receiving, stocking and disbursements of hazardous materials and the retrieval of hazardous waste materials, ensuring that all records, inspections and system transactions are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  2. Makes high impact decisions effecting material flow (performance to schedule) and handling of high environmental risk systems.
  3. Establishes priorities for subordinates to ensure efficient operations; plans, assigns and evaluates performance recommends recognition, rewards, and disciplinary actions as required.
  4. Trains newly assigned personnel and retrains employees on all hazardous material handling procedures. Identifies skills training requirements for assigned personnel and initiates as required.
  5. Develops operational and organizational improvements; coordinates implementation with affected parties.
  6. Ensures prompt and responsive customer service for applicable hazardous material processes supporting operations.
  7. Analyzes problems and initiates corrective action as required.
  8. Audits departments to ensure procedures are followed by each employee.
  9. Ensures that all hazardous material conforms to EPA, OSHA and departmental procedures.
  10. Directs subordinates to deliver/retrieve hazardous material to/from using departments within specified customer and regulatory time limits.
  11. Interfaces with other departments to ensure integrity of inventory control; responsible for inventory accuracy of assigned area or function (high dollar and high volume).
Additional Functions:
  1. Performs weekly safety audits and ensures that all areas meet safety requirements. .
  2. Oversees special projects (Lean Manufacturing, 5S, visual management, etc) and ensures procedures are implemented and followed. .
  3. Assists in developing work schedules and methods to improve efficiency of operations. .
Perform other duties as assigned.Other Requirements:
  1. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with all levels of management, technical and non-technical personnel and coworkers.
  2. Individual will have heavy customer contact.
  3. On feet most of shift and must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  4. Able to operate PC (word processing and spreadsheet applications).
  5. Proficient in the operation of hazardous material handling equipment.

This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
