We offer a competency-based apprenticeship that can allow you to complete your trade certificate in less than four years and gain skills for life.

What you’ll be doing
As an Apprentice at Hastings Deering, you will:
Learn from the best – gain hands-on experience repairing, servicing and maintaining Caterpillar equipment, engines and power systems.

Build trade skills for life – combine on‑the‑job training with formal studies in a structured apprenticeship program.
Work safely, always – develop strong safety habits and follow industry-leading workplace health and safety practices.
Grow every day – progressively build your technical capability under the guidance of skilled tradespeople and mentors.

What you’ll need
We’re looking for apprentices who bring:
Genuine interest in your chosen trade, demonstrated through work experience or relevant studies.
Education or experience, including:
Completion of Year 12 in 2026, OR
Previous completion of Year 12 with sound achievement in English and Maths, OR
At least 2 years’ relevant work experience if school was not completed.
Hands-on ability – experience using hand tools or working in an industrial environment is highly desirable.
Safety-first mindset – a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
Strong communication skills – good listening, comprehension and teamwork abilities.
Commitment to learning – willingness to complete structured training and development in line with your apprenticeship and future skillset.
