Job Description

Your Impact

You will be working on sophisticated, industrial, real-time systems involving embedded software, firmware, communications networks, and system-level applications. This team of engineers develops innovative monitoring systems used for Grid Monitoring, Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), and Generation applications in electrical substations and power plants.

Here’s where you’ll demonstrate your proficiencies:

  • Validation and verification of embedded systems incorporating processors, microcontrollers, Linux-based platforms, communications interfaces, and distributed software architectures.
  • Design, development, and execution of test plans covering firmware, embedded software, system functionality, and product-level requirements.
  • Development of automated test tools, test frameworks, simulation environments, and virtual test systems for system-level verification.
  • Execution of integration testing across firmware, embedded software, networking, cloud services, and application software layers.
  • Verification of system performance, reliability, cybersecurity, interoperability, and functional compliance requirements.
  • Investigation and root-cause analysis of complex system issues through log analysis, protocol analysis, software debugging, and network diagnostics.
  • Collaboration with firmware, software, hardware, systems engineering, and product teams to ensure robust product validation and long-term reliability.
  • Support for regulatory and compliance activities, including functional, environmental, cybersecurity, and industry-standard verification requirements.
  • Use of Agile Scrum methodologies to support validation activities, continuous improvement, and product quality initiatives.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of industry experience, including at least two years in embedded systems validation, firmware test /development, systems engineering, software integration, or test automation.
  • Understanding of embedded systems, software architecture, firmware design principles, networking technologies, and systems engineering concepts.
  • Experience developing automated test solutions using scripting or programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, or similar.
  • Experience working with Linux-based embedded systems and modern software development environments.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive high-performance validation and quality strategies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, interpersonal, and technical communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience validating embedded firmware, Linux applications, edge computing platforms, or distributed system architectures.
  • Experience with networking technologies including Ethernet, TCP/IP, managed switches, GPS, PTP, NTP, and time synchronisation systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting communications and system behaviour using packet capture and analysis tools such as Wireshark.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA, or related technologies.
  • Experience developing automated test harnesses, regression test systems, simulation environments, and system-level verification frameworks.
  • Familiarity with protocol testing and diagnostic tools used in industrial automation and power system environments.
  • Experience with Linux-based embedded platforms, containerised applications, and version control tools such as Git.
  • Knowledge of embedded software development practices, software lifecycle management, CI/CD pipelines, and automated quality assurance techniques.
  • Exposure to Digital Fault Recording (DFR), Power Quality (PQ), PMU, condition monitoring, or other grid monitoring applications.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity concepts, secure communications, vulnerability assessment, authentication mechanisms, and requirements.
  • Exposure to cloud-connected systems, remote monitoring platforms, telemetry frameworks, or edge-to-cloud architectures would be advantageous.
