Mid- to Senior-level mechanical engineering position in the Huntsville Hardware Engineering functional department. This position will support one or more projects performing design engineering for integration of Command and Control systems, such as radios, networks, antennas, and power equipment, in support of Department of Defense projects. These projects include anti-artillery systems, security and warning systems, air and missile defense components; installations in tactical wheeled and armored vehicles, aboard ships, or in operations centers; as well as associated support activities. Position supports a functional matrixed organization; employee's final program assignment may vary depending on staffing needs.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Design of mechanical parts and assemblies, including 3D CAD modeling; 2D drawing drafting, reviews, revision, and release; selection of components and materials; support of trade studies
Communicating with suppliers and customers to exchange technical information
Collaborating with other functional areas on various aspects of product design/documentation, including procurement, production, logistics, or configuration management
Hands-on troubleshooting, inspection, or assembly of parts/subsystems in support of prototyping, production, or test
Performing engineering analyses, such as weight and center of mass, structural, transportability, or thermal; as well as authoring reports documenting them
Creating, delivering, and defending engineering briefings or reports to support design review activities
Tracking & reporting task status in an Agile for Hardware environment
Leading or providing technical supervision to engineering teams conducting any of the above activities
Training and mentoring junior or mid-level engineers
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
Minimum 5 years of experience (for level 3) or 8 years of experience (for level 4) in mechanical design engineering
Experience in 3D parametric modeling using any industry-standard 3D CAD package, NX or SolidWorks preferred
Experience drafting & reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards
Experience using any industry-standard Product Lifecycle Management system, TeamCenter preferred
Experience using Manufacturing Resource Planning systems, SAP preferred
Demonstrated good verbal/written communication skills & proactive inter-personal initiative
Experience leading teams solving complex technical problems in a collaborative environment
Active DoD Secret or greater security clearance (or interim)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in integration design of C2 systems supporting DoD customers
Experience preparing or reviewing proposals for DoD customers
Experience with industry and military standards (MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1472, etc.)
Experience in one or more of the following technical areas:
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Design or inspection of weldments per AWS
Dynamic stress analysis
Design, analysis, or selection of HVAC systems
Military coatings, surface treatments, and corrosion control
Design of electromagnetically shielded enclosures
Cable assembly modeling and routing in CAD, NX preferred
Model based definition (MBD/PMI), NX preferred
“Digital Twin” hardware modeling and simulation
Primary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $123,400.00 - $185,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
