Hardware Engineer
LOCATION: Dundee, UK
& KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Hardware Engineer with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering to join our Product Engineering team in Dundee.
This role focuses on the design, evaluation, testing, and support of parts and assemblies used within ATMs. The successful candidate will contribute to projects that solve technical problems, improve performance, reduce cost, and streamline the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
• Problem-Solving: Utilize new strategies, techniques and tools for troubleshooting.
• First Article Inspection (FAI) Analysis: Review, analyze, and approve FAI reports for new or modified parts—such as sheet metal and plastic mouldings—to verify supplier manufacturing processes meet critical engineering dimensions, tolerances, and design intent.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Apply strict DFM principles to optimize part geometry for injection molding and sheet metal tooling.
• Cost Analysis: Evaluate cost implications of design decisions, support cost reduction activities, and work with suppliers to deliver cost-effective solutions while meeting engineering standards.
• Innovative Design Solutions: Drive innovation and new technologies into the design from external learning and previous experiences.
• Prototyping & Proof of Concept: Create and test prototypes to validate new thinking, concepts and designs.
• Tolerance Analysis & GD&T: Perform tolerance stack analysis and apply GD&T principles to ensure robust assembly performance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Services and Manufacturing, to ensure successful solution release. Collaborate with tooling suppliers and manufacturing partners to validate design and processes.
• Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation to support the development and integration of the new solution in production, or field units. This would be formally approved using the correct systems with all relevant information to allow for correct implementation.
• Sustainability: Apply principles of sustainability into the design phase to further improve the new solution and products.
Basic Qualifications
• Education: A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a related field (Hons 2:1 or better preferred).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering and/or Product Design and Development.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Creo or SolidWorks Preferred), and other engineering software, High-level understanding of part design, in particular, sheet metal parts, plastic moldings, and mechanisms, as well as a good knowledge of tooling and parts manufacture. As part of this drawing, dimensioning and tolerancing experience is required.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Experience with team coordination or task management tools would be beneficial.
• Communication: Excellent Verbal & written communication skills and ability to present to customers and/or product management as well as communicating to team members.
• Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross- functions teams internally and externally. This role collaborates with multiple stakeholders to ensure clear expectations throughout project development and standards of excellence are achieved.

• Ability to work on several projects simultaneously
• Willing to travel, globally E.g. to support projects, meet suppliers or support analysis or testing.
