Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides gymnastics instruction in the YMCA’s Gymnastics program at the Saugus Family YMCA location, which includes school programs, introductory tumbling programs, introduction to competitive gymnastics, as well as instruction in USAG Levels.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

1. Instructs gymnastics to members within the programs.

2. Follows lesson plans for recreational lessons.

3. Attends staff meetings as needed.

4. Maintain accurate attendance in all classes.

5. Monitor gymnastics equipment for safety, maintenance, and replacement needs.

6. Fill out accident reports if necessary.

7. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to provide a fun and safe atmosphere for children of all ages.

2. Understanding of beginner gymnastics and USAG progressions.

3. Ability to think creatively and with an open mind with regard to programming and instruction

4. Ability to communicate effectively, establish rapport with participants and their parents, be a team player in the organization, and exercise good judgement

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

1. High school diploma preferred, but high school students with excellent gymnastics experience are encouraged to apply

2. One to three years working with children in a recreation and/or instructional setting.

3. USAG Certification preferred. Willingness to earn certification within one year of start.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Work requires standing, walking, bending, spotting, lifting, and repetitive motion.

WORK SCHEDULE

Work schedule will vary depending on needs of program. Work hours will primarily be during the late afternoon/early evening during the week, and in the morning on weekends.
