Job Description

The responsibilities of a YMCA of Southwest Florida Manager on Duty (MOD) are integral in ensuring

the consistent presence of leadership in the gymnasium. The MOD will assume ownership of the

gymnasium during his/her/their shift and will have operational knowledge of the facility, its layout,

design, and safety protocols. It is the responsibility of the MOD to resolve member and participant

concerns while supporting onsite staff and volunteers and upholding Y policies and procedures.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Perform opening duties of the gymnasium area to include unlocking gates, setting up check in with Daxko, making sure the gym and surrounding areas are free of debris and safe for use.
  • Check in all participants, ensure active membership, monitor participants for appropriate behavior, and address any behavioral issues.
  • In the case of open pickleball or programming, assist in set up of the gym area.
  • Immediately before a shift - MOD must review the daily schedule of events and check in with
  • Welcome Center staff.
  • Monitor gymnasium and programs, making rounds regularly and be aware of the general appearance of the area.
  • Meet and greet members and visitors in a positive and professional manner as a representative of the YMCA; ensures the security of the gym enforcing policy regarding visitors.
  • Communicate with branch/department leader and/or facilities team regarding areas of concern.
  • Maintain 100% availability during their shift to respond immediately when needed -always carry a two-way radio and cell phone.
  • Remain in the gym throughout the entire MOD shift. In the event the assigned MOD must leave the building, it is the responsibility of the MOD to check in with your supervisor to
  • Identify another qualified and trained manager to assume the duties.
  • Walk the gymnasium, meet, observe staff performance, check cleanliness of facility and perform clean up as needed.
  • Respond to all incidents in the gymnasium, support branch staff, and serve as point person for any required action needed to include:
  • Contacting emergency services
  • Administering immediate aid
  • Report incidents and accidents according to YMCA of Southwest Florida’s Incident
  • Reporting policy and process.
  • Support branch staff and resolve member and participant concerns/complaints when needed.
  • Manage all closing procedures:
  • Remain in the gymnasium until all members and guests have left following closing procedures.
  • Visit all areas of the gymnasium and walkway to the branch to ensure all members of the public have left the building.
  • Upon closing, ensure area is cleared out, cleaned up and all doors/gates are locked and the area is secure.
  • Provide feedback for DED/ED/AED on observation during shifts on MOD report completed at the end of shift.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Thorough understanding of YMCA of Southwest Florida’s Incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and respond accordingly in the event of an emergency.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings and/or weekends when needed.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Completion of YMCA of Southwest Florida’s annual safety trainings.
