Assistant Director of Facility Operations

Position Summary
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority is currently recruiting an Assistant Director of Facility Operations to support the Director of Facility Operations in managing custodial and event set-up operations across the campus. This role provides strategic and hands-on leadership for key service contracts—including custodial, waste and recycling, interior landscaping, pest control, window cleaning, and uniform services—ensuring vendor compliance, service quality, and cost effectiveness.
The Assistant Director leads department managers and supervisors, oversees staffing and event readiness, manages budgets and inventory, and collaborates across departments to ensure seamless operations. Through proactive oversight and continuous improvement, this position plays a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and exceptional guest experiences aligned with GWCCA’s commitment to excellence.

Assistant Director of Facility Operations Work Environment
- Fast-paced, operational environment within the Georgia World Congress Center campus

Assistant Director of Facility Operations Physical Demands
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grip, and operate tools, equipment, and controls. Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to access plumbing systems in ceilings, rooftops, or elevated areas. Must be able to work in confined spaces, including crawl spaces, utility rooms, and tight mechanical areas. Requires good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and grip strength. Ability to see clearly (with or without corrective lenses) to read gauges, blueprints, labels, and instructions. Ability to hear and communicate effectively in environments with background noise. Capable of working in varying temperatures, including hot, cold, damp, or wet conditions. May require prolonged periods of physical exertion during repairs, emergency response, or high-volume event operations. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.
Assistant Director of Facility Operations Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Contract Management
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for facility operations service contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, performance standards, and continuous improvement goals
- Conduct inspections, oversee invoice processing, track vendor performance, and ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cleanliness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction are met
- Support contract renewals, vendor evaluations, and the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
Custodial Services
- Support oversight of contracted housekeeping partner to maintain cleanliness, sanitation standards, and performance metrics
- Collaborate with the Facility Operations Manager – Housekeeping to coordinate daily operations, staffing plans, and event support
- Conduct facility walk-throughs and quality assurance inspections
- Monitor custodial expenses, process invoices, and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies
Waste and Recycling Services
- Partner with the Facility Operations Manager – Housekeeping and Sustainability Manager to oversee waste and recycling operations
- Monitor vendor performance, documentation, and service delivery for daily operations and events
- Review invoices, track expenditures, and support budget management
Interior Landscaping, Pest Control, Window Cleaning & Uniform Services
- Coordinate scheduling, quality control, and compliance for interior landscaping, pest control, window cleaning, and uniform services
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and service-level requirements
- Collaborate with Food Services Sanitation leadership regarding kitchen and food service area requirements
Staff Management
- Provide leadership and direction to direct reports, including the Facility Operations Manager – Housekeeping, Facility Operations Supervisor – Event Logistics, and Facility Operations Coordinator
- Oversee staffing plans, scheduling, and event readiness to ensure appropriate coverage and labor efficiency
- Guide planning and development of task lists, workflows, and assignments for Set-up and Housekeeping teams
- Conduct regular meetings with managers and supervisors to align priorities and review performance
- Support training, coaching, and professional development initiatives
Inventory Management
- Oversee operational inventory, equipment maintenance, and lifecycle planning
- Establish and enforce storage standards to ensure safety, organization, and accessibility
- Implement procedures for damaged equipment evaluation, repair, and replacement
- Forecast long-term equipment needs and support procurement and budget planning
Budget Management
- Assist in administering departmental budgets with a focus on cost control, revenue recovery, and operational efficiency
- Review event cost estimates, labor plans, and material expenses for the Set-up department
- Review housekeeping staffing requisitions, labor plans, and cost estimates
- Track revenues, expenses, and labor utilization
- Support monthly variance analysis and recommend corrective actions
Meetings & Coordination
- Participate in pre-event planning meetings, weekly operational meetings, and post-event reviews
- Lead weekly departmental meetings to communicate priorities and performance expectations
- Collaborate with the Director on reporting, data analysis, and executive-level presentations
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Coordinate with Food Services, Facility Maintenance, Utility Services, and Event Services to align operational timelines
- Support shared initiatives that enhance efficiency, safety, and the overall guest experience
Sustainability & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with the Sustainability Manager to support waste diversion, recycling, and environmentally responsible operations
- Identify opportunities to enhance sustainability through vendor practices and operational processes
- Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, metrics, and quality assurance standards
- Perform other duties, special projects, and responsibilities as assigned to support the objectives of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority
Assistant Director of Facility Operations Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of facility operations, custodial services, and event logistics
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple vendors, contracts, and service agreements
- Proven leadership and team development skills
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor, and inventory
- Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills

Assistant Director of Facility Operations Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in facility operations, custodial/housekeeping management, or event operations
- Experience managing staff, service contracts, and budgets within a large or complex facility environment
- Working knowledge of sustainability practices, inventory systems, and quality assurance processes preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and facility management or scheduling software
