The Global Vendor Tooling (GVT) Purchaser is responsible for the strategic sourcing, commercial negotiation, and life cycle management of complex industrial tooling assets. This role focuses on the procurement of high-precision stamping dies and automated assembly lines for welded structures. A critical component of this role is the technical and financial analysis of refurbishment requests for worn-out assets, ensuring an optimal balance between capital expenditure and operational efficiency.

Specialization: Stamping Dies, Welded Component Assembly Lines, & Tooling Life Cycle Management

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

  • Identify and develop a global supplier base, focusing on Best cost without compromising technical quality.

  • Conduct detailed "Should-Cost" analyses by deconstructing vendor quotes into design, material, machining, and try-out components.

  • Negotiate complex commercial contracts, including milestone-based payment terms.

Tooling Refurbishment & Life Cycle Management

  • Technical Audit: Evaluate refurbishment requests for worn-out dies by analyzing toolroom reports, wear patterns (burr height, thinning, galling), and stroke-count data.

  • Financial Modeling: Perform "Repair vs. Replace" (NPV/ROI) analyses to determine the most cost-effective path for aging assets.

  • Scope Definition: Validate vendor overhaul proposals to ensure they address root-cause wear (e.g., replacement of bushings, re-cutting profiles, nitrogen manifold updates) rather than superficial repairs.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in Automotive or Industrial procurement, specifically focused on Tooling or Capital Equipment (CAPEX).

  • Global Experience: Proven track record of managing vendors in Asia, Europe, and North America.

  • Software Skills: Advanced MS Excel f, and basic familiarity with CAD viewing software.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Stamping Expertise: Deep understanding of die construction for High Strength Steel (HSS) and Aluminum; knowledge of press tonnages and die kinematics.

  • Welding & Assembly: Familiarity with automated welding cell components, including robots (Fanuc/Kuka/ABB), PLC controls, and MIG/Spot/Laser welding specifications.

  • Material Science: Knowledge of tool steel grades, heat treatment processes, and surface coatings (PVD/CVD/Nitriding) used to extend tool life.

  • Blueprint Literacy: Ability to interpret 2D GD&T drawings and 3D CAD models to challenge vendor technical assumptions.
