Job Description

Established in London in 1814 Purdey are today world renowned for the finest craftsman made side by side and over and under shotguns and double barrel and bolt action rifles, each one fully bespoke to their client's specifications and needs. Purdey's exclusive range of men and women's shooting and country clothing and accessories reflects the same attention to detail.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?

To produce, according to their specific skills, Purdey shotguns and rifles to meet all orders, on time on budget, and to the required quality standard.

To continuously assist in developing the product, the technology, tooling, and processes employed, to maintain and further the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality, in line with the company objectives and standards.

This includes activities of:

  • All Craftsmanship and machining processes involved in the production of all of Purdey’s shotguns and rifles, both existing and future products.
  • Assisting development in the Technical department for example providing assistance, feedback and advice during CAD / CAM development.
  • Continually looking for new processes, tooling, and methods to improve quality and reliability within the craft side of the business.
  • Supporting the activity of the Craft managers in organising and developing any activity within the workshop
  • Strive to continuously improve in respect of Quality, Productivity, output and teamworking
  • Explaining the craft process to visitors and customers in a positive and courteous manner
  • Ensuring a safe working environment, following all procedures and good practices, using provided safety equipment, and notifying management of any concerns or system failures so they can be addressed.
  • Working as a member of the Purdey factory production team, at all times helping to maintain and develop the culture and professional standards synonymous with the brand.
  • Fully participate in the culture of achieving the highest standards of quality in the finished guns and rifles with the aim of reducing levels of rework
  • Fully participate in the continuous improvement and achievement of the production schedule to deliver all guns and rifles on time
  • Assist in the processes of acquiring current and new tooling to ensure the company has the most appropriate technology at its disposal, optmiising quality and cost, whilst maintaining the required hand made, bespoke brand reputation
  • Assist and support the implementation of processes and procedures to support the on-going achievement of the specific company objectives
  • Assist with the cost effective and timely maintenance of all of the factory equipment and machinery.
  • Development and safekeeping of all information to maintain the intellectual property and product excellence of all Purdey products


HOW WILL YOU EXPERIENCE SUCCESS WITH US?

  • Time served Gun making Apprentice, ideally certificated by The London Proof House
  • New craft apprentices with a solid BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or appropriate subject will be looked upon favourably.
  • A sound Craft knowledge in their specialist area, and also a good breadth and depth of knowledge across all gun making.
  • Organised and positive with a desire and commitment to improving and developing the Purdey range of products.
  • Good communication, teamwork and motivation skills.
  • A good work ethic, able to reliably achieve the required output whilst maintaining high quality standards
  • Able to interact effectively with all levels within the company and with customers.
  • A capable problem solver who demonstrates resourcefulness.
