Job Description

Position Purpose: Prepare guns and bows for sale. Perform a variety of service and repair functions on new and used guns and bows. Through direct contact with customers, provide exceptional service and share product and technical expertise to enhance the customer experience. Process special orders for customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives, examines, and keeps records of guns and bows presented by customers for repair or purchases to determine causes of malfunction or if safe for resale.

  • Unpacks and examines equipment - guns for live ammunition and bows for damage, and mutilated serial numbers.

  • Prepares repair order from customers request and routes guns and bows for repair.

  • Reads correspondence to ascertain request or complaint. Disassembles gun or bow, using hand tools. Examines components, and measures dimensions and clearances, using gauges, to detect malfunction.

  • Test-fires guns or bows to evaluate performance of equipment. For guns this includes loading, firing, ejection mechanisms and accuracy of bore and sights. For bows, this includes string, cams, rest and accuracy of sights.

  • Prepares list of parts and repair operations required to restore function of gun or bow.

  • Determines whether customer or company is responsible for malfunction and records information for subsequent bill. May replace worn or broken parts.

  • Verifies repairs made to gun or bow and delivers invoices to customer or shipping department. Files copies of invoices, cost estimates or other correspondence concerning receipt, repair, and return of gun or bow to customer in order to keep record of transaction.

  • Values and works collaboratively and respectfullyacross a variety of differences among team members and customers.

  • Perform additional related responsibilities as requested.

Education Level: Vocational/Technical Degree
Years of Experience: 5+ years

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in firearms and archery sales and service

  • Customer service experience

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Demonstrated capacity for collaborative work in a retail environment, is adept at serving customers and teams from a variety of backgrounds

  • Ability to mount scopes and bore sights on guns and build strings and arrows and tune bows

  • Ability to establish firearms value

  • Blue book knowledge

  • Ballistics knowledge

  • Optics knowledge

  • Gun and bow fitting experience

L.L.Bean uses a market-based compensation approach. The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $17.88 - $22.36. Individual compensation may vary based on factors such as a candidate’s experience, qualifications, education, geographic location, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
