Job Description

Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School seeks a full-time, 12-month School Counselor for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for building a comprehensive student college, career, and support program for approximately 200 students in grades 9–12. Under the supervision of the principal, the School Counselor will help foster an environment that encourages and empowers young people to grow in mind, body, and spirit.

Essential Functions

Student Counseling
  • Develop a network of professional, licensed counseling resources to support student needs as they arise.
  • Develop and oversee student academic success plans in collaboration with students and parents.
College and Career Planning
  • Support students in grades 9–12 as they prepare for post–high school opportunities.
  • Host college and career planning sessions for students and parents.
  • Coordinate college, trade school, and military information sessions at OLMC.
  • Collaborate with students and parents on the college and scholarship search and application process.
Academic Support
  • Coordinate the course selection process for students.
  • Prepare and publish final student academic schedules.
  • Serve as a liaison with Global Learning partners to provide alternative course credit options.
  • Schedule annual one-on-one meetings with students.
  • Oversee student IEPs and accommodation plans, partnering with parents and students to secure appropriate LEA support.
Professional Development / Growth
  • Attend professional conferences, workshops, and seminars to support ongoing development.
  • Obtain and maintain licensure in an appropriate field.
Administration / Organization
  • Build and maintain a School Counseling Google Classroom resource repository for students and parents in a timely manner.
  • Publish periodic updates from the School Counseling Department, including information on academic success, college and career resources, scholarships, and financial aid opportunities.
  • Track college and career acceptances, post-graduation plans, and scholarship/award amounts.
  • Maintain regular office hours for students and parents.
  • Prepare quarterly, semester, and final reports on student progress.
  • Coordinate the review and production of student transcripts.
  • Serve in additional capacities as requested by the Principal.

Position Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Counseling or related field, or currently working towards a Master's Degree in Counseling or related field.
  • Possession of, or willingness to obtain, Maryland School Counselor Certification.
  • Leadership skill to effectively work with parents and teachers.
  • An appreciation for and understanding of the social, emotional, educational, and developmental needs of high school children.
  • Supports and upholds Catholic moral and social teaching and the mission of Catholic Schools.

Physical Demands

  • The position requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.

  • May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials (5–50 pounds).

  • May require extended periods of standing or sitting at a keyboard or workstation.

  • May involve repetitive motions (e.g., typing).

  • May involve walking long distances and climbing stairs.

Pay Range: $50,000 - $60,000, Annualized
