About the opportunity

Reporting to the Group Chief Financial Officer, we are seeking an experienced and senior professional to join Mercy Health in the role of Group Treasurer to provide strategic oversight and stewardship of Mercy Health’s treasury, funding and investment activities.

This role offers a rare opportunity for an experienced treasury, banking, investment or funds management executive to apply their expertise within a highly regarded for-purpose organisation while maintaining a flexible part-time arrangement.

The position will require an initial period of higher engagement to review treasury strategy, operating settings and policies, investment arrangements and the funding model, followed by an ongoing commitment equivalent to one day per week focused on portfolio oversight, optimisation and advisory support.

A key focus of the role is the oversight and challenge of external investment managers, and also direct accountability for managing Mercy Health’s significant term deposit portfolio, including optimisation of counterparty mix, tenor and returns within approved risk settings, as well as providing experienced judgement on funding, liquidity and capital allocation decisions.

The Treasurer is also responsible for the ongoing integrity and refinement of the Group’s 10 Year Funding Model, with oversight from the Group Chief Financial Officer, ensuring it remains current, robust and fit for purpose as a core tool supporting long term funding, liquidity and capital planning.

On a day-to-day basis, the role will work closely and be supported by the Divisional Chief Financial Officer Corporate and the Treasury Accounting team in Group Finance.

What you’ll bring

You will be a proven senior leader with demonstrable success within a large, complex, and evolving environment that can evidence their values-based leadership and offer an authentic, engaging and agile character.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

• Extensive strategic senior level subject matter expertise in treasury, investments or fund management gained in a corporate setting
• Strong understanding of cash management, liquidity optimisation, funding structures, capital allocation and performance assessment
• Extensive experience preparing papers and presenting complex treasury and investment matters to Boards and Finance, Audit and Risk Committees
• Proven ability to negotiate and manage funding arrangements and build relationships with key partners and stakeholder

Demonstrable experience:

• Maintaining or governing long term financial, funding or liquidity models used to support Executive, Board and Finance, Audit and Risk Committee level decision making
• Establishing or refining treasury disciplines, frameworks or operating models
• Optimising portfolio performance within defined risk settings
• Overseeing external fund managers
• Managing cash and term deposit portfolios to enable liquidity requirements and optimise returns
• Experience in complex, regulated environments (not for profit, healthcare or aged care desirable)

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:

• A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
• Degree or Post Graduate studies in Corporate Finance, Business Finance, Banking, Funds Management or a related discipline highly desirable.
