Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Tennis Instructors at the Eugene Family YMCA maintain a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. Group Instructors coach and lead group tennis lessons, clinics, classes or events in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels.
Essential Functions
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group programs and lessons as directed by the Tennis & Pickleball Director, to realize the Ys mission and goals
- Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants
- Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to tennis, health and well-being
- Maintains working knowledge of the sport of tennis to provide effective information and support to members
- Helps coordinate and run tennis mixers, clinics, leagues and other events or activities hosted at the Tennis & Pickleball Center
- Performs as a team player in the Tennis & Pickleball Department
- Maintain a clean and neat facility by ensuring proper set-up and clean-up for all activities
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA
- Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture
- Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations competently
- Complete all required trainings as assigned by supervisor, by scheduled due dates
- If required to drive while on duty (either your own vehicle or a Y-owned vehicle), must maintain a current, valid Oregon driver’s license, a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards, and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- At least six months of experience teaching group tennis classes and/or lessons
Preferred
Qualifications
- USPTA / USPA / USPTR / USTA certification
- Previous experience working at a YMCA
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
