Job Description

About us

Halfords is on a journey - building the future of motoring and cycling and looking for people who want to help shape what comes next. We’re a place for co‑creators: people who want to make a real impact, take ownership and be part of something that’s still evolving.

As the UK’s leading retailer of motoring and cycling products, we’re supported by one of the country’s largest independent vehicle servicing, maintenance and repair networks through Halfords Autocentres. This breadth gives us a strong, stable foundation - and the freedom to keep innovating and growing.

That means real variety for our colleagues, along with the opportunity to learn, stretch and develop as the business moves forward. Whatever your role, you’ll be part of a team focused on delivering exceptional service - using your expertise to solve problems, guide customers and help keep the nation moving with confidence.

About the Role

Halfords is transforming its induction experience to ensure every new colleague has the strongest possible start to their career with us. We are seeking a 12‑month maternity cover to join our team and continue driving this exciting work forward. You’ll play a key role in enhancing our current induction approach while also designing and launching new programmes and resources. As Group Induction Lead, you will oversee, coordinate, and continuously improve the induction journey for all new starters across the Halfords Group. Your work will shape the first impression colleagues have of our business, ensuring they feel informed, supported, and fully equipped to integrate into their role and our Halfords culture.

You will collaborate across multiple teams and departments to deliver induction programmes that reflect our values, meet compliance requirements, and support the specific needs of each role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver effective group induction programmes tailored to different roles, departments, and colleague groups, including oversight of the probation review process
  • Facilitate engaging induction sessions such as welcome presentations, company overviews, webinars, and Q&A sessions
  • Create, update, and maintain blended-learning induction materials that are relevant, accurate, and aligned with company policies and industry best practice
  • Apply the full L&D cycle to ensure learning solutions are well‑framed, scoped, designed, and delivered.
  • Monitor and report on induction effectiveness, using colleague and stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement
  • Work closely with HR and departmental leaders to tailor induction content to specific roles, functions, and locations
  • Partner with SMEs and Technical Trainers across the Group to ensure all induction content is accurate and up to date
  • Collaborate with HR, recruitment teams, and hiring managers to ensure induction aligns with recruitment goals and colleague expectations
  • Ensure all induction activities meet company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards
  • Develop and implement induction surveys to enhance colleague experience, support capability, and improve retention
  • Produce regular reports on induction metrics and insights
  • Stay informed on best practice in onboarding and induction, continually refining our approach to deliver a world‑class experience

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire new colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Proactive problem‑solver with a positive, solutions‑focused approach
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering an exceptional colleague experience
