Group Financial Reporting and Controls Analyst

Are you a qualified accountant looking to develop your expertise in financial reporting, controls and compliance? Join our Group Finance team in Liverpool and play a key role in supporting financial reporting, audit, tax compliance and financial controls across Peel Ports Group.

Your Role

As our Financial Reporting & Controls Analyst, you will help deliver accurate and compliant financial reporting across the Group by supporting key controls, reconciliations and regulatory requirements.

You'll investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, prepare balance sheet reconciliations, and support tax compliance activities, including VAT and statutory submissions across multiple legal entities. You'll also contribute to the preparation of statutory accounts, financial reporting packs and year-end reporting.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Finance, Tax and Internal Audit, you'll support audit activities, control monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen our financial control environment. You'll also have opportunities to contribute to wider projects, including due diligence activities, process improvements and the adoption of new technologies within Finance.

Who are we?

Already one of the UK’s leading port and logistics companies, we are planning substantial capital investment over the next 5 years to achieve our vision of becoming the UK’s leading port operator. We have ambitious plans to grow and transform the supply chain to benefit our customers. Our investments are decarbonizing our operations, which in turn is helping us work towards our goal of having Net Zero Port Operations by 2040. Much of our success depends on our unrivalled facilities and technology. But in our sector, it comes down to having the right talent to enable our organisation to grow.

What you'll bring

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with experience in financial accounting, reporting, audit or controls-related activities.

In addition, you will have:

  • Experience supporting financial controls, reconciliations and compliance activities
  • Experience working with statutory reporting and audit requirements
  • A good understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting and finance processes
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate, identify and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Experience using SAP within a financial accounting environment
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement

It would also be advantageous if you have:

  • Knowledge of VAT and wider tax compliance processes
  • Understanding of technical accounting areas such as intercompany accounting, fixed assets, payroll or revenue recognition
  • Experience using Power BI, Power Automate and Microsoft Copilot
  • An interest in automation, AI and the use of technology to strengthen finance processes and controls

In addition to a competitive salary, we have a strong track record of developing our people to expand their skills and experience and develop their careers. Valuing and rewarding our workforce is important to us which is why we offer a fantastic range of flexible benefits to choose from, such as:
