We are currently looking for a Financial Controller to be responsible for leading the financial governance, reporting, and performance management frameworks across the NPDL’s multi-country operations. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information, supporting strategic decision-making and enabling operational excellence in a complex, fast-moving global shipping and logistics environment.

In this role, you will oversee financial reporting, statutory compliance, while driving financial discipline and continuous improvement across all regional offices. Working closely with executive leadership, commercial teams, and operational units, the role provides critical financial insights that support profitability, cost efficiency, and sustainable growth.

What you will be doing:

Financial Reporting & Close Management

  • Oversee end-to-end accounting operations for multiple entities (NPDL and PFL), ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain robust ledger integrity and drives timely reconciliations across all accounts.
  • Execute monthly and quarterly close processes within strict timelines (month-end: 5 business days; quarter-end: 7 business days).
  • Deliver comprehensive variance analysis and actionable insights to FP&A and US Financial Reporting teams.
  • Review and mitigates risks in high-impact general ledger reconciliations across subsidiaries.

Audit & Compliance

  • Lead coordination and successful completion of 15+ external audits annually across diverse jurisdictions.
  • Manage audit schedules and ensures timely submission of 25+ group reporting packs to PNL UK.
  • Oversee preparation and review of audited and compilation financial statements.
  • Ensure full compliance with debt covenants and regulatory requirements, minimizing exposure to financial risk.

Technical Financial Leadership

  • Act as a trusted advisor on IFRS and US GAAP, guiding adoption and interpretation across the organization.
  • Apply Principal vs. Agent considerations under IFRS 15/ASC 606 for accurate revenue recognition.
  • Provide technical expertise for due diligence, mergers, and acquisition projects, ensuring compliance and strategic alignment.

Systems, Processes & Automation

  • Champion automation and standardization of financial reporting and intercompany processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Strengthen internal controls to safeguard data integrity and ensure compliance.

Leadership & People Development

  • Mentors and develops accounting professionals, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Builds team capability through structured learning, coaching, and mentoring programs.
  • Promotes collaboration across South Pacific finance teams, positioning finance as a strategic business partner.
  • Sets clear goals and performance standards aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Champions an inclusive, high-performance culture that drives engagement and results.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects and initiatives as required, supporting broader finance and business priorities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional designation (required).
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, MBA, or related discipline (preferred).

Experience and Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of cost accounting and IFRS, with US GAAP exposure an advantage.
  • 10 plus years of relevant experience, including at least 6 years in corporate accounting and 3 years in public accounting.
  • Expertise in financial compliance, month end closing, general ledger management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with automated financial and accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities with the capability to prepare financial statements, projections, and reports.
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate remote teams while meeting tight deadlines and overseeing multiple projects.
  • Ability to travel internationally when required.

  • External auditors, banks, financial institutions, tax advisers, regulators, and government agencies.
