Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Caerphilly to assist with the appointment of a Group Accountant, on a 6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £23.46 - £31.17 per hour

Summary:

The Group Accountant Technical will provide Revenue, Capital and Treasury accountancy services within the Council's Corporate Accountancy team. The role will coordinate the corporate final accounts process, support budget preparation and monitoring, provide technical advice on Local Government accounting, and ensure compliance with accounting standards, legislation and best practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the corporate accounts closure process each financial year.
  • Prepare the Authority's year-end consolidated accounts and final Statement of Accounts.
  • Coordinate the annual closing of accounts timetable and associated guidance.
  • Account for the Authority's corporate balance sheet and undertake ledger reconciliations through to trial balance stage.
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate the completion and submission of statutory financial returns within required deadlines

Qualification:

  • Accountancy qualification or equivalent, such as Level 6/Degree-level Accountancy or AAT.
  • Relevant knowledge and understanding of CIPFA accounting, treasury management and prudential codes.

Essentials:

  • Extensive experience of Local Authority Accounting and associated legislation and Codes of Practice.
  • Detailed knowledge of Local Authority accounting standards and legislative requirements.
  • Experience of managing, motivating and developing a team.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets and data analysis.
