We are seeking a motivated and proactive Groundsman - Shuttle Train Operator to join the rail operations team in Montréal‑Est, working Monday to Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be responsible for performing rail car movements safely and efficiently in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.

What you will be responsible for :

  • Perform safe rail yard operations, including movements involving rail cars, trains, and locomotives;
  • Move rail cars and coordinate movements according to operational instructions;
  • Couple and uncouple rail cars during rail operations;
  • Operate rail equipment and shuttle trains, as required;
  • Communicate with the team using a radio to direct and secure movements, including indicating when to start, stop, reverse, and apply or release air brakes;
  • Board moving rail cars using side ladders;
  • Perform various related tasks associated with the site’s rail operations.

Qualifications

To join our team :

  • You have previous experience as a yard crew member or as part of a railway operations team (asset);
  • You have strong teamwork skills and clear, effective communication abilities;
  • You are in good physical condition and able to repeatedly climb on and off rail cars;
  • You have the ability to lift more than 50 lbs, handle air hoses, and secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches;
  • You are proactive and able to quickly assess situations, with team safety as a top priority;
  • You are comfortable performing physically demanding work in all weather conditions;
  • You have experience in a manufacturing environment and in operating heavy vehicles or equipment (loaders, cranes, shuttle trains).
