Position Title: Groundskeeper Lead
Department: Maintenance
Supervisor: District Maintenance Grounds Supervisor
Term of Employment: 12 months
Salary Classification: Grade 19

Performs a variety of grounds keeping and landscape maintenance functions for the athletic fields and grounds of the Peoria Unified School District (PUSD).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES generally include the following:

  • Oversee and Coordinate Crew:
    • Lead to the grounds crew responsible for painting all sports fields, including softball, baseball, football, and soccer.
    • Ensure the crew follows proper procedures for field preparation and maintenance.
    • Assign daily tasks and oversee work quality.
  • Field Painting & Maintenance:
    • Ensure all sports fields are properly lined and painted according to regulations.
    • Maintain accuracy in field dimensions and markings.
    • Schedule and coordinate painting to meet game and practice requirements.
  • Equipment Oversight:
    • Inspect and maintain painting equipment, mowers, aerators, and other field maintenance tools.
    • Ensure all equipment is in good working condition and report any issues.
    • Coordinate with the supervisor for repairs and replacements.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with the supervisor to align field preparation with athletic schedules.
    • Communicate with coaches and administrators regarding field conditions and any necessary adjustments.
    • Provide updates on crew progress and field readiness.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure all work is performed safely and according to district and sports field regulations.
    • Train crew members on proper equipment use and field preparation techniques.
    • Monitor field conditions and address any safety concerns.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of grounds keeping and landscaping practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of care and operation of power and hand tools and equipment.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting and understanding relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures.
  • Skill in following written and verbal directions.
  • Skill in operating a variety of power and hand tools and equipment.
  • Skill in performing custodial and maintenance functions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, AND one (1) year of relevant grounds keeping, landscaping, construction or irrigation installation and maintenance experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess or obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must be able to pass a background clearance check.
  • Must possess at time of application and must maintain a valid Arizona driver license.
  • May be required to demonstrate fluency in English: written and oral communications
  • May be required to perform grounds and landscaping maintenance services and repairs while standing, stooping, bending, crawling and working overhead or in trenches.
  • May be exposed to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, and infectious diseases.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, equipment, tools, parts and materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • May be required to operate a variety of power and hand tools, equipment and machinery.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours.
  • May be required to travel to perform work functions
