Groundskeeper I - (26005059)
The University of Iowa, Landscape Services is seeking a highly motivated person to work as a Groundskeeper I. This position provides support to Groundskeeper II in assigned Campus Area; may provide assistance to other Landscape Services crews for projects as needed. Must have basic knowledge of grounds maintenance skills and equipment and hand tools. Working knowledge of plant material and care. During inclement winter weather this position will be required to assist in snow and ice removal in a variety of equipment that may include skid steers, plow trucks, sander, or Polar Trac. Duties to Include:Responsible for maintaining assigned areas as outlined in the Landscape Services Management PlanPerform snow removal using designated equipment, such as utility vehicle with sander, shovel, and snowblower Assist other Landscape Services units as needed such as the Tree Crew, Turf Crew, by operating utility vehicle, mowers, skid loaders, JCB, tractors, etc. and attachmentsMay assign, coordinate, and review the work of other groundskeeping personnel in coordination with Landscape Management Supervisor Perform minor repairs and service work on equipment Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; Due to the critical operational needs of the department, this position may be required to work overtime. Minimum Eligibility Requirements:One year of experience in operating the machinery and tools used in groundskeeping work or Any combination of related experience and education from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired which totals one year.Special Qualifications:Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards. Desirable Qualifications:Two or more years previous groundskeeping experienceExperience operating snow/ice removal equipmentClass A or B CDL with Air BrakesGood communication skills and experience working on a teamBasic computer experiencePreventative maintenance and troubleshooting experienceAbility to follow oral and written instructionsProfessional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectivesPosition and Application Details:Job openings are posted for a minimum of 10 calendar days.
