Title: Assistant Secondary Principal

Reports To: Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations

Takes Direction From: Director of Facilities and Operations, Assistant Director of Facilities, Coordinator of Environmental and Custodial Operations, Lead Groundskeeper, Facility Supervisors

Calendar: 8.0 hours/day 40.0 hours/week 261 days/year

Summary: The Groundskeeper 2 performs general grounds maintenance, athletic field preparation, facility support, and logistical tasks for the school district. This position ensures all district grounds, outdoor athletic facilities, and equipment are kept safe, functional, and visually appealing. Also serves as a courier and assists with warehouse duties..

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains the district grounds, including mowing, trimming, weeding, etc.
  • Assists with laying out and preparing athletic fields for contests and practice, and maintains them.
  • Assists in the maintenance of athletic fields.
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining related athletic equipment for use by participants, coaches, officials, and spectators.
  • Patches asphalt.
  • Cleans the parking lot and removes trash.
  • Performs snow plowing, snow removal, and ice removal.
  • Installs, repairs, and stores snow fences.
  • Receives and transports general school supplies, materials, and equipment, including pick-up, distribution, and storage, as needed.
  • Receives, distributes, and stores groundskeeping equipment and materials, including tools, machines, solar salt, chemicals, additives, seed, fertilizer, and plantings, and any other groundskeeping materials and equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance on groundskeeping equipment.
  • Delivers groundskeeping-related parts and supplies.
  • Performs other groundskeeping tasks as assigned.
  • Serves as a Courier of District mail by performing such tasks as, but not limited to, picking up, dispatching, receiving, and distributing materials and supplies included in the District courier mail.
  • Assists with warehouse duties as required.
  • Performs any other services or functions in maintaining district buildings, grounds, equipment, and supplies at optimum levels, as assigned.

Education and/or Certification Required:

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Valid PA driver's license is required.

Experience Needed:

  • Groundskeeping experience preferred.
  • Grounds equipment operation experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred.

Knowledge of:

  • Familiarity with and ability to read blueprints/plot plans.
  • Fundamentals of landscaping, tree care, lawn/turf care, and general grounds and facilities maintenance (parking lots, buildings, etc.).
  • Tools, equipment, machines, and materials used to maintain grounds and facilities, inside and out.
  • Preventive maintenance practices and procedures for tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • District safety procedures and requirements in the operation of large machinery, powered equipment, mowers, chemicals, etc.

Requisite Skills:

  • Operating and maintaining all equipment associated with grounds maintenance, snow removal, tractors, and accessories.
  • Laying out, marking, and maintaining athletic surfaces and fields.
  • Conducting routine preventive maintenance on grounds equipment, machinery, and tools.
  • Operating mowers, irrigation systems, and sprayers.
  • Reading, understanding, and following documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Applying basic mathematics to determine areas and quantities, adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying units of measure.
  • Communicating and cooperating with district staff supervisors, building administrators, and other district employees.

Ability to:

  • Understand and follow simple written or verbal instructions.
  • Read and implement field layout diagrams and instructions, as well as equipment operation and maintenance instructions.
  • Work standing/walking for long periods of time.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Lift, push, pull, twist, stand, raise arms above shoulders, stoop to the ground, climb ladders and stairs, work in noisy or dusty environments, inside and outside, in extreme weather conditions.

The North Penn School District is located in Southeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 20 miles north of Philadelphia in Montgomery County. The district encompasses 42 square miles and has a total population of more than 98,000 residents. These residents reside in Hatfield, Lansdale and North Wales boroughs, Hatfield, Montgomery, Towamencin and Upper Gwynedd townships and the village of Line Lexington. Currently the district consists of 13 elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school and one credit recovery school. NPSD employs approximately 2,000 staff members. Approximately 13,000 students attended North Penn schools during the 2018-2019 school year.
