The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. This is skilled supervisory work in the upkeep of lawns and grounds surrounding state institutions or buildings. Positions furnish technical guidance and supervision to grounds crews engaged in the construction, modification, and general upkeep of grounds areas. Work assignments involving the standard application of horticultural practices are performed under general supervision. Projects involving technical horticultural knowledge and application are outlined by the grounds superintendent who reviews the project during progress and upon completion for acceptable workmanship and adherence to project plans.
Reporting to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III, this position handles the design and upkeep of lawns, landscaping, and grounds surrounding Western Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain, NC.
Job duties include but are not limited to:

Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) operates as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement and renovation and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO) and serves as the DAC representative on all matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency planning, construction, and maintenance services to ensure all statewide Institutions and Facilities remain in compliance with building codes, regulations, and legislative mandates, while also promoting the agency’s rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training within the construction and maintenance trades, while assisting institutions directly and indirectly with the installation and maintenance of kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment.
The Support Services Division oversees the operations and infrastructure that sustain facilities within the Department of Adult Correction. Responsibilities include facility maintenance, fleet and warehouse management, food services, construction and renovation projects, and energy efficiency. This division plays a vital role in supporting daily operations and long-term planning.
