Job Description

About the Role

Join the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council as a Grounds Person and play a vital role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our community spaces. You’ll contribute to the wellbeing of the Kowanyama community by ensuring our grounds and facilities are clean, safe, and welcoming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain Council and stakeholder properties, including mowing, pruning, planting, watering, and pest control.
  • Remove litter and rubbish, manage site housekeeping, and report maintenance needs.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment to a safe and tidy standard.
  • Operate Council vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Support the team with other duties as allocated by your supervisor.

Selection Criteria

  • Team player who supports others to achieve goals.
  • Experience in manual/physical work over full days.
  • Willingness to learn and use gardening/cleaning equipment.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (weight, volume, distance measurements).
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to work independently or in a small team.
  • Commitment to a diverse, equitable, and safe workplace.
  • Personal attributes: commitment, passion, energy, drive, initiative, resilience, respect.
  • Local residency required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people. Experience in remote/Aboriginal communities highly regarded.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Police Clearance.
  • Current C Class Driver Licence (desirable).
