Job Location: Omaha Zoo - Omaha, NE 68107
Position Type: Part TimeJob Title: Grounds Crew Member
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Classification: Seasonal
Hours: 6 hour shifts; minimum of 24 hours per week
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date.

Summary:
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Grounds Crew Members to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the Zoo’s grounds while delivering exceptional guest service. This position works directly under the supervision of the Supervisor of Grounds.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Grounds Maintenance:
- - Remove trash, foreign debris, and landscape mulch from parking lots and landscaped areas both inside and outside of the Zoo.
- - Clean pathways and public areas within the Zoo, including cleaning liquid spills, food waste, and gum.
- - Assist with trash and recycling pickup throughout the Zoo grounds and in parking areas.
- - Clean, straighten, and maintain trash and recycling bins, ticket kiosks, tables, chairs, umbrellas, benches, play structures, and sculptures.
- General Responsibilities:
- - Collaborate with the Grounds and Horticulture teams to maintain a clean and attractive environment for Zoo visitors.
- - Operate basic cleaning and maintenance tools including brooms, mops, scrapers, rakes, and leaf blowers.
- - Adhere to the Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Employee Handbook and all policies.
- - Provide guests with general information about exhibits, facilities, and their locations.
- - Maintain professional behavior to ensure a positive guest experience.
- - Follow safety procedures and immediately report any accidents or hazards to a supervisor.
- - Foster a positive team environment and assist coworkers as needed.
- - Maintain proper radio etiquette when using the Zoo’s multi-channel communication system.
- - Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Seasonal Responsibilities (for all reporting positions):
- - Participate in spring and fall cleanup activities.
- - Assist with mulching and weeding tasks.
- - Support event setup as required.
- - Help with snow removal as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Minimum of 24 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.

Experience:
- No prior experience required.
Working Environment and Physical Effort:
- Work is performed primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Shifts may start early in the morning or extend into the evening.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Must wear closed-toe shoes.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, using hands for handling and manipulating tools, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and occasional sitting.
- Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques.
- Continuous physical activity using basic tools and equipment such as leaf blowers and rakes throughout the zoo.
