Job Description

The Lead GSE Mechanic is responsible for leading all efforts in the maintenance and repair of ground support equipment (GSE) used by the organization. This employee will stay in close contact with the General Managers of the Maintenance facilities and monitor daily activities, ensuring that all GSE items are maintained to the highest standards and are always ready for use. The Lead GSE Mechanic will also be responsible for developing and implementing maintenance procedures and schedules, as well as ensuring compliance with all safety regulations as a facility safety representative (FSR).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead company efforts in the maintenance and repair of GSE, including but not limited to power carts, hydraulic equipment, tugs, tow bars, jacks, fuel trucks, small engines, and powered industrial trucks (PITs).
  • Performs pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and general maintenance repair and/or service on large ground equipment and tools.
  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures and schedules to ensure that all GSE is maintained to the highest standards and is always ready for use. This includes:
    • Performing regular fluid checks on all equipment as recommended by OEM and company policy.
    • Managing OEM equipment manuals and perform repairs in accordance with OEM.
    • Supervise semi-annual and annual PIT inspections.
    • Develop & maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspection processes.
    • Maintain service logs and records of maintenance on equipment.
  • Manage GSE inventory, including ordering parts and supplies as needed. Identify inventory for bench stock intended to reduce downtime.
  • Train and mentor mechanics, providing guidance and support to ensure that they are performing their duties to the best of their abilities. Identify deficiencies and recommend training if necessary.
  • Ensure shop areas are in a clean and organized condition.
  • Assist in the license & registration renewal processes.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all maintenance activities, including work orders, parts used, and time spent on each job.
  • Communicate regularly with other departments to ensure that GSE is available when needed and that maintenance schedules are coordinated with operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including but not limited to OSHA and FAA regulations and act as the facility safety representative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be ASE Certified
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in GSE maintenance, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GSE systems and components, as well as experience with diagnostic and repair equipment.
  • Two years pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and/or general maintenance work required.
  • Ability to proficiently read equipment schematics.
  • Furnish tools and diagnostic equipment, etc. required for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Forklift Certification; Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Solid communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with a team and communicate effectively with other departments and facility leadership.
  • Ability to manage inventory, as well as track and report on maintenance activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to travel if assistance is needed at other company facilities. (Travel ~10%).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
