The Grossing Laboratory Technician I prepares, trims, and processes tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist

Meet minimum production standards for department
Properlyidentify, orient, ink, and trimsubmittedtissues per SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and related protocols whileensuring the utmostquality
Produceaccurateand legible grossing notes with code description that provide the Pathologist with a clear understanding of the sections taken
Communicate with and respond to Pathologists, transcription, and Lab Coordinator emailcommunications
Identifyproblemsand special handling cases
Trim tissue for specific re-gross requests when requestedin a timelymanner
Assistwith daily,weekly,and monthly maintenance ofvarious machines and equipment
Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results
Reportany technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor
Crosstrainand develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. Maintains clean and organized workarea Restocks supplies as needed
Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
Performs other duties asassigned

EducationandExperience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's degree in science, Biologyor otherLife Sciences strongly preferred
Coursework in anatomy / physiologyrequired
Knowledge,Skills,and Abilities
Laboratory skills, with experience setting up,running,and reading lab tests andoperatinglab instruments.
Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures
Knowledge of medical and laboratoryterminologyand Histology procedures and equipment.
Attention todetailand organized with ability to multi-task in afast-pacedenvironment
Ability to work independently and as part of ateam
Effective communication skills and ability to exchangeaccurateinformation
Proficiencyin the English language which allows for participation in team meetings,accurateentry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.

Utilizepersonal computer skills, including fast andaccuratetyping, to input data efficiently
