Job Description

Join our expanding team at Watson Metal Masters as a Grinder Operator! As we experience rapid growth, we’re on the lookout for committed individuals eager to build their careers.

As a vital member of the production team, you will contribute significantly to our operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the setup and operation of grinding machines, focusing on grinding external or internal cylindrical and tapered surfaces of metal pieces. Prevision and adherence to instructions and charts during the grinding procedure are key aspects of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Grind external or internal cylindrical tapered surfaces.
• Remove metal by the application of abrasives which are bonded to form a rotating wheel.
• Rough and finish flat, cylindrical, and conical surfaces.
• Read and interpret charts, drawings, and blueprints.
• Determine product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground.
• Collect and assemble required products.
• Determine grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used.
• Mount grinding wheel.
• Dress wheel according to specifications and use dressing devices.
• Position work rest to specified height.
• Lift or hoist workpieces.

Qualifications

Education
• High school diploma preferred but not required.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience
• Ability to maintain equipment, including changing out wheels.
• Ability to inspect grinding wheel for cracks, or ware.
• Utilize micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges.
• Set up automatic work-feeding device.
• Use proper wheel guards on all grinding machines.
• Grind non-metallic materials.
• Must be able to interact professionally, appropriately, and courteously with customers, co-workers and other outside parties.
• Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to successfully follow through on assignments.
• Understanding of safety standards is required, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Must be trustworthy, dependable, and able to work well with other team members.
• Ability to pass a Dye Check certification on the job.
