Job Description

Assists with the growing process within the greenhouses. Waters and weeds plant material.

Monday-Friday 8a-4p.

Some evening and weekends required, lots of overtime opportunities during peak seasons.

Essential Functions:

  • Have and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Have dependable vehicle at all times.
  • Have and maintain automobile insurance coverage at all times.
  • Maintain eligibility to operate agency vehicles.
  • Physical capacities must include bending, stooping, and lifting a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Work flexible schedule based on schedules of persons served by and needs of A New Leaf, including but not limited to working scheduled weekends to water and spray plants
  • Follow policy & procedures of A New Leaf
  • Insures all individuals served are safe in their working environment and program participation at all times.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, (complete requires documentation and reports required by A New Leaf)

Specific Duties:
Conducts greenhouse duties that include, but are not limited to: watering, planting, grooming and general plant care. This may include but not limited to the following:

  • Uses equipment such as wheelbarrows or carts to transport plant material throughout the greenhouse complex.
  • Digs and rakes soil, plants, weeds, and waters plants, shrubs, and trees, using hand tools and gardening tools.
  • Fills growing tanks with water.
  • Folds and staples corrugated boxes used for horticultural products.
  • Assists greenhouse customers with questions and purchases.
  • Completes all required documentation
  • Attends all necessary licenses, completing them successfully, such as: pesticide-spraying technician testing, if applicable.
  • Interacts with clients served to promote self-esteem, confidence and morale. Participates actively to insure the happiness and well-being of clients. Treats individuals with dignity & respect.
  • Represents A New Leaf & individuals in the program in a positive manner; acts as a positive role model for all individuals served.
  • Performs other duties as requested to meet the needs of A New Leaf.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of horticultural practices and techniques helpful.
  • Knowledge of the practices of working with, and training of individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers

Special Requirements:

  • Criminal arrest check will be done through the OSBI; any person with a felony conviction will not work for A New Leaf (Section 1025.1 et seq. Of Title 56 of the statues, House Bill 1790). A background check will be requested form the OSBI. Any prospective employee with a felony or misdemeanor conviction, guilty plea or plea of nolo contendere will not be eligible for employment. This prohibition may be disregarded if an appropriate waiver is obtained from the Office of the Director, Developmental Disabilities Service Division, Department of Human Services, or his/her designees, and the Board of Trustees of A New Leaf approves such waiver.
  • Community Services Registry check (House Bill 1790) will be done through Developmental Disabilities Services Division, Department of Human Services, the person whose name appears on the registry can not work for A New Leaf
  • Minimum Age – 18
  • Positive attitude toward working with diverse population.
  • Good customer relation skills.
  • Final hiring pending on OSBI background check, Clean driving record, Community Services Registry check and pre-employment screening.
  • Valid drivers license

About A New Leaf Inc.

A New Leaf’s mission is to provide individuals with developmental disabilities with life skills, marketable job training through horticultural therapy, community-based vocational placement, and residential services to increase their independence and individual choices.

A New Leaf was established in 1979 to provide horticultural-related job training to adults with developmental disabilities. A New Leaf began with one greenhouse, one staff and served two individuals. By 1980 A New Leaf, grew to serve 13 individuals. In 1986, A New Leaf built its first 12,000 sq. ft. greenhouse and vocational training facility. Then in September 2013, acquired Homelife Association. Through the acquisition, A New Leaf began operating two group homes and providing 24-hour assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities living independently.

Today, A New Leaf is honored to serve 325 individuals with developmental disabilities and autism through employment in five greenhouses, two retail centers, community job sites, students in the classroom, and individuals in residences.
