Graphic Designer

Position Description:

Network Runners, Inc. is seeking 2 full-time Graphic Designer to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) Hospital Communications Department. Two Graphic Designer positions are anticipated. The Graphic Designer will serve as a primary visual storyteller, translating complex medical, military, and command information into compelling visual communications for print, digital, social media, environmental, and multimedia platforms while protecting patient privacy and maintaining Walter Reed brand standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and production of command-level publications, public health campaigns, patient education materials, environmental graphics, digital signage, social media content, and other visual communication products.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of graphic design projects from concept development through final production, including project timelines, production calendars, stakeholder coordination, feedback, revisions, and final delivery.
  • Translate complex medical, scientific, military, and command concepts into clear, accessible, and engaging infographics, illustrations, layouts, and visual aids for diverse audiences.
  • Create and edit photographic and video assets and integrate multimedia elements into cohesive communication products across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate with Public Affairs and communications team members to develop visual strategies and creative concepts for major hospital events, command initiatives, public health messaging, and crisis communication requirements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across WRNMMC to define design requirements, establish priorities, and manage a high volume of concurrent projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Manage the review and approval workflow for visual products, presenting concepts and final materials to designated reviewers and leadership for approval.
  • Ensure all visual products comply with applicable brand standards, Department of War/DHA requirements, and safeguards for HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI).

Minimum Education / Experience / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Communications, or a related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of professional graphic design experience supported by a compelling portfolio demonstrating expertise in branding, print and digital layout, and data visualization/infographics.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, with familiarity in pre-press and digital file preparation.
  • Proven experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or a similar regulated, high-visibility environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to rigorously safeguard HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) in visual products.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent design projects, establish priorities, coordinate stakeholders, and meet firm deadlines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required Tier II non-critical sensitive background investigation and Common Access Card (CAC) for access to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and DHA systems.
  • Ability to complete required Department of War/Defense Health Agency onboarding, security, privacy, HIPAA, and other mandatory training and to execute the required DHA non-disclosure agreement prior to beginning work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with video editing and motion graphics software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects is a significant advantage.

Work Location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), 8901 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Maryland 20889. Work is performed on-site Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays and Government-directed closures. Occasional support outside normal duty hours may be required for contingency plan activations or exercises.
